Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol Sleeping Pad is rated 4.1081 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a hammock. I bought this pad to solve the insulation issue faced by anyone who camps in a hammock. I got the smaller size so that it straps onto the outside of my pack without sticking way out where it will snag trees and what not. You DON'T need to pay more for the larger size, the pad only needs to insulate your core (mid-thigh to shoulders/head). The z-lite solved the insulation problem, I don't get chills at night anymore, not even in the winter. It got down to 17 degrees on my last backpacking trip and I slept fine in my hammock with this as an insulator... It's also indestructible and can be used as a seat, wind break for a fire/stove, etc. I love multi-tools and this pad has several uses. Worth the buy for sure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It doesn't weigh much I had an inflatable Therm-A-Rest and was sleeping alright. Came across a Z-Lite and decided to try it. A few days later I ditched the inflatable I had been carrying. The Z-Lite is simple, light, and compact. If you are backpacking or long distance hiking you do not need an inflatable. The Z-Lites's accordion design is a breeze... no rolling up and compressing. No wasting time. Provides reasonable comfort and insulation, doubles as a seat. Only complaint- it did have a tendency to slip around in my tent if sleeping on a slight slope. Keep it level. Otherwise, great design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with brainstorming I do 1-3 day backpacking trips. I go as light as I personally can, because my physician said not to be carrying heavy backpacks. I have arthritis in my hips ( 1 is replaced), & knee, lower back. I was using a Thermarest NeoAir XL which for me worked great, but then I've really needed something to kneel on too. Both this & the neoair jumped the weight up to 30 oz of pads to carry, & that was too much to carry. So, in addition to using the Z lite for a knee pad, I triple fold it under my Montbell Super Spiral under my hips & low back. There is still some to spare under my thighs & shoulders (I have the long). I use the Inertia Xframe inside my sleeping bag, this keeps my heels off the ground. This combo is warm, & works to cushion my bones. I am a side sleeper. HTH people with arthritis who still want to be active.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for this Side-Sleeper A good night's sleep is one of my highest priorities both on and off the trail; if I don't sleep well, I will be miserable all of the next day. This isn't the feeling I want while backpacking and it's potentially dangerous if I can't focus my attention because I'm too tired in the backcountry. I seek a combination of lightweight and comfort (not either/or, as the review options suggests). The Z-Lite Sol is a reasonable comfortable pad that gives me a good night's sleep in a lightweight pad, but this comes with a couple caveats: 1. I am a lightweight person (125 lbs. at 5'7"), so the egg crate design doesn't flatten out when I sleep on it, as it does for some people. This pad has worked for me for years, I think in part because of my weight. Much larger people I've known doesn't seem to find this pad as comfortable as me. 2. I'm a side sleeper, but I also sleep with a thick inflatable pillow. This is a critical point, I used to be unable to sleep on my side with "conventional" backpacking pillows. A rolled fleece jacket, while soft, provided no support for my head and neck. Once I added the Exped Pillow to the pad, I've been sleeping well on my side on the Z-Lite since it supported my head and neck while on my side. The Z-Lite is also versatile, it's folded design easily converts into a camp seat so I don't have to bring a separate one. It's not as comfortable as a inflatable pad, but it's comfortable enough for me with the caveats in mind for many years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keep It Simple, Stupid! I bought this after having an older coleman self inflating pad. I am a large guy and had trouble with the inflatable pad "bottoming out" on my back. It was the cold that bothered me, not the comfort (I can sleep on a bare rock if it is not cold). What really sold me is that it insulates well, it cant pop, and it is SUPER easy to pack/unpack. I bought two adjustable straps to attach it to the outside of my pack and keep it from unfolding. Only takes a minute to pack up! I even bought a 2nd for my girlfriend. I have used this for two nights on the Ruby-Horsetheif stretch of the Colorado River, dozens of nights in the Colorado mountains, and even a night in Southern Utah on pavement in the open.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great as a bottom pad This is a great pad if you use it as a bottom layer. Took it on a Rainier climb to get my pack as light as possible and did not sleep. I am a side sleeper and was in pain. I bought a big agnus air pad at just over a pound an cut this down to 3/4 length and 17 inches wide. It now weighs a 1/2 pound with the entire package of both pads att 1.5 pounds and an R value of 5.5. Side sleep on snow never felt better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great! except bulkiness backpacked 3 months in patagonia and bolivia with this pad and it always kept my warm and comfortable. its really useful as a quick comfy seat during breaks on a long trek. its been through a lot and I expect it to hold its functional shape for many years. the only complaint I have with this pad is the bulkiness. it is light but kinda gets in the way because of how bulky it is. Not really a problem on the trail but could be a hassle if you're backpacking in urban areas and getting in and out of cars, airports, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced an inflatable pad I had an insualted inflatable pad (not self-inflating) that packed down very small and light, and found that (a) it deflated a bit overnight, sometimes more, sometimes less (b) it took a really long time to deflate and roll up completely, and (c) it was rather "slippery." I was skeptical that I would be comfortable enough on the Z-Lite, but now I recommend it frequently. It's nearly indestructible and plenty soft and insulating for my purposes (down to the 20s). And, best of all: setup and teardown take about 10 seconds. It can be tricky to pack because it takes up a lot of space, but because it's light and durable, this isn't a big problem. I've had this pad for about five months.
