Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
I received my 910XT and was able to do a swim and and a bike so far. I've upgraded from my previous 405.
Overall:
I love this watch and it performs better than my previous watch (and I can swim with it). I like having buttons even after using my 405 for 3 years. Firmware upgrades in the future will likely solve some of the new watch glitches. One feature that would be nice is if it could display the time when it's not being used as a sport watch (other Garmins can, so why not). For triathletes and those who like to exercise across multiple sports, this watch is great.
Swim:
I swam two intervals (1/2 mile each) alternating freestyle and breaststroke. It always recognized the freestyle lengths, but was 50/50 for my breaststroke. Half of them showed up as backstroke. This is not a huge deal at all for me. Over 64 lengths it only added one extra length and I think I caused it by adjusting my goggles during that length. The only thing to add to the swim feature would be the ability to create workouts like you can in the run and bike modes.
Run:
It's nice to have 4 data displays on one screen so it doesn't have to cycle through screens. I haven't run with it yet, but it paired easily with my foot pod and HRM.
Bike:
Worked great on the ride today. It was nice to have such a huge display you can glance at while bombing down technical trails.
I would have purchased this from REI, but they're on backorder.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
The idea behind this version of Garmin is incredible, however, apparently the unit the I received is defective. The battery never shows as charged, it will frequently just turn off in the middle of a workout, and it is near impossible to turn on without button mashing. When I can get it functioning, I LOVE it. I am about to swap it out, thanks to the great customer service at REI, and I hope I have better luck with my new unit. From what I have read, I received a defective device. Will be happy to change my review if my new experience yields a different result!

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
I have been using the Garmin 910 for about 2 months now and am absolutely loving it. My workouts each week consist of a lot of running, cycling, and swimming. Before I bought the 910, I used a combination of training tools: my Forerunner 405 for running; a combination of a bike computer, heart rate monitor, and MapMyRide data for cycling; and a lap counter with stopwatch for swimming. Life has become so much simpler now that I can use the 910 to replace all of the above.
The 910 is a reasonable size so that you don't feel like you're lugging a huge bulky piece of equipment around on your wrist like some of Garmin's previous models. Having used a couple of other GPS-enabled watches, I have to say that Garmin has really made the 910 fairly easy to use. The satellites are located quickly and it is pretty simple to set the watch to display your preferred data for each sport.
I also have always enjoyed the Garmin Connect site, where you can easily view your workout data, track your progress, and see exhaustive details from each workout.
The only negative that I feel the need to point out is that I have come to doubt the accuracy of the altimeter on the 910. After comparing my data from several cycling workouts to the altitude data obtained from MapMyRide and from a friend's data from the older Garmin model, the 910 has significantly exaggerated the amount of climbing on my rides, usually by several thousand feet.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
great watch... I love everything about it. I love it in the water, on a run or on the bike. Right now I can't seem how they could improve on it. I have been running with gamins for over 10 years and this watch by far is the best. Nice job Garmin...

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
1. Great overall product
2. Counting length- the real time count may be off at times. For me, I believe it is because I am not a great swimmer so my hand motion/breathing cycles get messed up so i may inadvertantly accelerate therefore causing is to sense me "coming of the wall". This can be easily seen when the data is downloaded and can quickly determine how many laps you really swam. Regardless, it is still more accurate than me counting my laps swimming a mile in a 25 yards length pool. I can not just think about my stoke etc.
3. Biking and running is flawless.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
I returned the 610 for the 910xt - the additional battery life was really what spurned me to make the commitment and buy the more expensive watch. Having a proper altimeter and being water proof are also nice features.
I don't mind the bulkiness though as others have noted it would be nice if Garmin provided a simple software update to allow it to perform like a normal watch - much like the 610 does when it's in 'sleep mode.'

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
If your a self coached athlete I would highly recommend this device. Interval Training, Virtual partner/racer, Calories, Heart Rate, GPS are just some of my favorite properties. You get a myriad of screen options and its quick to find out what you like to see the most on each screen. I just used the "virtual racer," on a single track trail run, beating my one year younger self. Calorie, distance, time, hrt rate notices all a plus. Virtual Racer + Notices = clear plan for tackling Big Races. Small learning curve, get to know the device and [$] won't seem as bad. The physical design and swimming options help, but may not be necessary, I had the Garmin 310xt and am still on the fence on whether the price change is worth it. Either way Im sold on Garmin and REI.

Very accurate for running and bike. Have not used it in the open water yet, but looking forward to trying it this weekend. Not very accurate in the pool.

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS Heart Rate Monitor:
I'll admit I have not yet used all the function on this Garmin. I did research all other options and I found this to be exactly what I needed. I'm training for a 62 mile one day hike in April so I needed something to track how fast I was walking each mile and how far I was going. The battery life is excellent at about 20 hours so long enough for those longer events. It gives off a little chime and buzzes each mile and lets you know how fast you are going. I wish it also gave an average speed (haven't been able to find this). I also was hoping it would have date/time but it doesn't have that.I also needed it for when I start training for triathlons after my hike is over so I will be using the swim and bike functions.
