Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
I bought this to use for day trips, canoeing, tailgating, picnics, etc. I left it in a hot car for 10 hours while I was hiking and it still had plenty of ice and kept my after hike beverages nice and cold! It lacks shoulder straps, like a day pack, that would make it perfect, otherwise you won't be disappointed with this cooler.I have a friend that hands down made the best day pack coolers and until he does again, this will do.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
We used this on a week long car trip. It keeps thing cold for 2-3 days but what I loved most were the pockets, perfect for condiments, collapsible cups, sporks, instant coffee, oatmeal packets etc... It also collapses for small storage. I plan to keep this in the trunk of the car for trips to the beach and road trips.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
I've won the attention of many people with this cooler. I don't know of anyone that has a softshell cooler that doesn't leak. We go on a canoe trip every year as a family and everyone brings their softshell coolers that leak down their back as we carry them to the dock. Mine is the only one that doesn't leak. This thing is seriously 100% waterproof!
Here is the scoop about the top compartment, as I was a little confused about it when I purchased the cooler. Their is just enough insulation in between the cooler compartment and the top compartment to allow some cooling of whatever is in the top compartment. Do not put anything up there that you want at 40 degrees, it's not going to happen. Things like granola bars will not melt if left in the top compartment, unless you leave the cooler sitting on the beach in direct sunlight.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
I think the shoulder strap could be a bit longer. A strap to go around your waist or maybe one with a hook to attach to your belt/belt loop. Something to keep it from flopping around a little more would be great. I LOVE that it has an attached bottle opener. I really like the upper compartment.....really all the compartments. I like that the cooler straps can be tightened or loosened to make it larger or smaller. Not sure if this was considered in the design, but when the cooler straps are loosened to make the bag it's largest, you are able to attach a rooled beach towel through the strap loops on the underside.....very handy! This bag can get heavy so maybe a little more padding in the strap would be nice.
