Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

I picked this pad based on the reviews, size, and weight. It has been used four times inside of an MSR Alpine bivy. I am completely disgusted! The second morning that I awoke to it being flat I thought I must be doing something wrong. However after a quick inspection I found a leak and patched it. The next disappointment lead me to believe I was once again at fault, maybe I didn't lock the valve. Surely all of the reviews could not be wrong. Finally after the midnight epiphany that I was again on a flattening pad I was livid! A trip into the bathtube has reveled a dozen or so micro pin holes. Since some of them are in the seam on the side there is no way I could have subjected it abnormal conditions that lead it to failure.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

Quite comfortable for sleeping, but difficult to inflate. Held its air through the night, but had to re-inflate each night. Packs small. Haven't had a chance to test it for warmth yet - got it in the Spring.

Used to bring along a inflatable foam core mattress before I discovered this mattress. This is a little lighter more comfortable and packs down much smaller. I'm a happy sleeper now!

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

Overall pretty comfortable. I mostly bought it wanting a pad that would pack smaller and lighter than the other one I own. It definitely packs small. It did seem to get a touch soft throughout the night, but I've only had the chance to try it a couple times so far.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

Absolutely the most comfortable pad ever. The two bolsters on the side mean that I don't slide off the pad at night.
*BUT* after only a few uses it started leaking. When I put it in soapy water, I found that there was not just one little hole --instead the entire fabric was leaking. So... great idea, but poor execution.
I will check with REI about what they've done to improve this and depending on that get another, or go for the ExPed.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

Used for backpacking; stuffs well, is lightweight and inflates/deflates easily. I move around a lot when I sleep so I really like how the two outboard tubes are bigger, that kept me on the pad and I woke up on the pad instead of the ground. I also like the insulation this pad provides. Excellent value for the price, has more features than pads twice the price.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

I'm an assistant scout master and spend 15-20 nights camping with the boys during the year. I'm also of the age where my back gets sore after a night on the ground. For a good night's sleep I need to be on my side which my conventional pad doesn't let me do. With the REI Stratus I can sleep on my side quite comfortably. I took this bad boy on a canoe trip to eastern Washington a few weeks ago and I slept like a baby. I highly recommend the Stratus. It's comfortable and a better value than others on the market. (BTW I'm average size guy...6', 195lbs)

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

I took this on a week long backpacking trip last summer and loved it. My husband uses a Thermarest and although his is comfortable, this REI pad soared above and beyond in compactness and weight. I love the thickness of it compared to the Thermarest too. The price was much more likeable as well. I love love love this sleeping pad.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

Needed a new air mattress as my 20 year old Thermarest wasn't cutting it anymore. This is thick, and I love how the two outer air chambers are slightly larger thereby making it easier to stay on the pad. It takes me about 2.5 min to blow up, and it takes down much faster.

Comments about REI Stratus Insulated Air Pad:

I'm getting back into hiking and backpacking and am changing out all the old equipment. I'm interested in taking advantage of newer lighter equipment technologies, but wouldn't consider myself to be a "competitive ultralighter" who is a slave to specifications. I was replacing a CCF pad and tried the Thermarest Neolite XL. At one pound for the long version, it looked great on paper but in reality I found the material to be too noisy and fragile. On whim, I ordered the Stratus in long. For a few more ounces, I got a much more comfortable pad that is silent and looks to be durable. I'd rather carry the few extra ounces and be able to sleep. As a bonus, its very reasonably priced - which always helps!
