We purchased these bags for our PCH trip on our motocycles so we needed small and compact. We had no problem staying warm with these even though we ran in cold foggy weather. Packed very small which was incredibly important when you are traveling for a month on a motorcycle and have limited space for everything.

This bag is virtually worthless except for "camping" on someone's couch. We bought two of these and zipped them together on a 2-month road trip that featured summer camping on the west coast, i.e. it was generally WARM. We froze our backsides off in these bags, even with long underwear, hats, fleece jackets and thick socks- and body heat from two people, not just one. I've been far warmer on zero degree winter camping trips than I was camping in June and July with these bags. They're going back to the store.

I don't mind if the temp rating is off a few degrees, but this so-called 40 degree bag is absurdly mis-labeled. It might be OK for summer camping in Florida, but for anywhere that the nighttime temps might dip below, say, 75 degrees, you do NOT want to be depending on these bags to keep warm. We would have been in serious trouble with these bags on a remote sea kayak trip or anywhere else that we could not escape to a hotel if temps cooled down below broiling.

Shame on you, North Face. What ever happened to your quality gear?

Took the bag to the Mojave, where the temps can change radically. I've been there with ten other bags, similarly rated, rectangular, and at the worst had a chill. This was in the summer.Go for the 25 deg dolomite, thats probably a 45 deg bag. We bought 2, and were freezing. It was brutal.

This product isn't for avid outdoors types. Its a mid temp sleeping bag thats very good at what it does. Keep you warm in moderate temps. It heats up quickly and stays warm. I love crashing on my couch in mine.
