Big wheels and big on fun, the Scott Scale 29er Comp hardtail mountain bike offers a sturdy trail platform for your singletrack endeavors and features 100mm coil-sprung fork and hydraulic disc brakes.

  • Lightweight, butted aluminum frame is tuned to maximize efficiency in the climbs and remain responsive when descending
  • SR Suntour XCR 29 LO suspension fork supplies 100mm of coil-sprung travel and offers easy lockout; alloy steerer provides weight savings
  • All-Shimano drivetrain features an SLX rear derailleur and Alivio trigger shifters and front derailleur for reliable shifting through the 27 gear combinations
  • Tektro Draco hydraulic disc brakes ensure effective stopping power; 180mm rotor up front, 160mm in back
  • Wheels are outfitted with the excellent all-arounder Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires to ensure great traction and rolling performance on the trail
  • Full-length cable housing deters gunky buildup that saps shifting performance; replaceable rear derailleur hanger helps extend the frame's usable lifespan
  • Specs on the Scott Scale 29er Comp hardtail mountain bike are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Scott Scale 29er Comp Bike - 2012:

The bike has been nothing but amazing. The bigger tires allow for more coverage off road and my ability to go over larger objects on the ground increased with less worry. I use it as an off road commuter for work, which consists of a 6 mile ride. Scott did a great job with these 29ers.

Comments about Scott Scale 29er Comp Bike - 2012:

I use this bicycle for commuting to work as well as riding trails around Durango, CO. I own a Trek carbon fiber racing bicycle and the light weight of this mountain bike suprises me. After riding, it seems crazy to justify the extra cost for a carbon fiber mountain bike. The only thing I don't like is the zip ties that hold the brake cables. Be careful when reaching for your water bottle as the zip tie's tail can leave a nasty scratch. Overall the bike is a great value for the price. Before purchasing I shopped all the other mountain bike brands and Scott was the best.

Comments about Scott Scale 29er Comp Bike - 2012:

Excellent value for the money, as long as you aren't wanting to put a rack on it for bikepacking or commuting -- it has no mounting eyelets for a rack. Scott USA does not list this bike on their web site and has no (zero) information about it -- it apparently is an REI-exclusive bike. Does appear to be the lightest bike available at this price point, and handles and rides well too. So if you can do without a rack and don't care that it's an orphan known only to REI, it's a great bike.

Comments about Scott Scale 29er Comp Bike - 2012:

Bought this bike to replace an old hardtail 26. The ride is smooth and lets you carry lots more speed through single track trails. Great over smaller rocks and tree roots. Brakes are solid, and shifting performance it top notch. For my riding style and for the places I ride, the tires could be a bit more agressive to provide a bit more bite in corners and loose soil. Overall I'm very pleased with the bike.

          Service and delivery comments:

The bike crew at the REI store in Troy, MI were very helpful and did a fantastic job in assisting me with my purchse.
