Lightweight nylon fabric dries quickly and resists pilling, and is easy to pack away in a backpack
With a UPF 50+ rating, fabric provides excellent protection against harmful ultraviolet rays
Fabric is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish to repel moisture and stains
Pleated cargo pockets with rip-and-stick flap closures offer ample space for trail and travel items; a zippered pocket on the left side secures essentials
2 front hand pockets (1 has an inner coin pocket), 1 rear zippered pocket and 1 rear rip-and-stick pocket provide additional storage

For me these shorts fit my needs perfectly! After hundreds of miles hiking and backpacking the Sierra-Nevadas, I've yet to see any sign of poor stiching or other issues. The pockets are perfect for comfortably carrying my small camera, cellphone, wallet and keys. I don't care for the belt, but that's not why I bought these shorts in the first place. At present, I own three pairs (one in each color) ~ and hope REI keeps selling these in the future.

I own three pairs of these shorts and they are by far the best shorts I have ever owned. I wear them daily around the house, on the weekend when I shop and work in the yard, and when I travel. There are lots of pockets to put phones, lists, wallets and keys in and they do not look to bulky. They also work great camping and hiking.

Great shorts, I wear them a lot during the summer for camping and travel. They breath well and can double as a bathing suit because they dry super fast. Strong construction makes them last forever. They feel a little short for my tastes but its not a big issue. All in all a great buy...need more colors!
