Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
Got to put this to the test for the first time last night during an outdoor event. I work in special events production, and no matter the weather we'll be outside working, so I need gear that I can trust to keep me warm and dry.
The temperature was in the low 60's. The sky really opened up for a good hour, and then traded off-and-on for drizzle and heavy rain. This jacket kept me completely dry for the entire 6 hours that I was outside. I can't say enough how great this performed.
A nice feature is the extra adjustability of the asymetrical cuff. I do a lot of work above my head, and nothing is worse than a jacket that drains all the water from your cuff down your sleeve. These cuffs allow you to really cinch down tight around your wrists and get them tight enough that no water gets in. There is no elastic around the cuff, so there are fewer puckers to let water in. The sleeves are also properly long so that you can undo the cuffs to keep your hands dry while walking around.
The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the extremly small chest pocket. It's very shallow, and it feels awkward even with a small flashlight... Certainly not big enough for an iPhone or iPod.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
bay area, cas up to replace a heavier, aging, red-ledge rain coat. I've only taken this backpacking once but I could immediately tell a difference when i put it on as it started pouring down rain. The rain poured for over an hour and tapered off to a drizzle and I never got that clammy feeling inside the jacket like I would with my other jacket. I also stayed nice and dry.
I had tried on the kimtah with the older design and didn't like the fit with my down sweater under it. The pockets were also poorly positioned. I tried this newer design in the store with a large down sweater (mine is a medium) and the medium sized kimtah fit over it very nicely. No bunching or binding in the arms and no need to buy a size bigger to layer IMO. The pockets on the new design are also better positioned for use with a pack pack and to double as ventilation if needed.
It's not the lightest jacket around but it is light and the quality seems great so far. I appreciate the simplicity of the design.
My only real gripe is the use of a storm flap over the main zipper rather than simply using a waterproof zipper like the pockets have. It seems this would have made it a little lighter and even more weather proof.
Regardless, it's a great jacket and worth the cost if you go out in the rain a lot.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
- This review is for the last version of the Kimtah
After trying out several rain jackets that either failed for some reason ie: not breathable, to heavy or just plain not waterproof I found the REI Kimtah jacket! I spend a lot of time outdoors for work and this jacket has proven to be quite excellent for that. I wear this jacket every where all year round in the Northwest, its perfect for me since I tend to run hot.
My only complaint is that now after 8 months of continuous wear the seam on the bottom of pocket has separated and I cannot find a replacement. This jacket is now being revised with the "pack pockets" which I cannot stand, give me regular pockets and eVent... I also use the breast pocket everyday to store my wallet which will no longer be included in this version it appears.
Bottom line, I love this jacket but I don't think I want to buy this new version, I'll have to find a way to fix the pocket on my own.

Could really use the bottom-up dual zipper that a couple of my other jackets have.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
I had searched high and low to find the perfect rain jacket to suit my needs. I wanted to find the jacket that would keep me dry all day long in the wet north of washington. I was about to order the Arcteryx alpha sl which is a little more money but seemed like a good jacket. After going in to REI and trying them all on I asked about the Kimtah which I hadn't seen before and was attracted to but skeptical. After comparing the two, the salesman convinced me to try it. And boy am I glad I did, the Kimtah is awesome. The eVent is a nice feel, breathable and keeps the rain out. The blue is quite pleasing as well.

More breathable than gor-tex. Tougher fabric than I had expected. Pack pockets are positioned high enough to allow access while wearing a pack with a hip belt. Pockets are mesh inside, so unzip to allow extra venting.
Fantastic product that I wear both hiking and as casual wear. 4 seasons.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
The only reason I am giving this jacket four stars instead of five is because I haven't had it long enough to truly comment on the durability. From what I have seen I think it will do fine but I am curious to see how it holds up in the brush. It is very breathable and has worked well for running in the rain also.

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
This is pretty-much my ideal raincoat. It's lightweight, breathable and comfortable. This "Event" material is pretty amazing.
I sweat easily, and I hate feeling clammy when it rains. I was not looking for warmth, but rather a raincoat I could use for summer travel. (If it's cold I just use layers.) This fits the bill.

got this right before a trip to the olympics while i was in washington, and boy was i glad! i burn hot and frequently end up soaked inside my rain gear and was looking to avoid that, sure did! despite the mild weather, the wind had some bite which the jacket was able to keep out. i was able to hike without constantly zipping/unzipping or adding/dropping layers which was fantastic. when it rained, and it did, i was nice and dry, better beading then i've seen in a while. i liked the fit, but i'm husky. solid coat. hope its as durable cuz i'm looking forward to staying dry this season and many more to come!

Comments about REI Kimtah Rain Jacket - Men's:
I have not owned this jacket long, but so far I think the jacket was an awesome decision. Just the other day I spent 2 straight hours in the poring down rain, and I was completely dry and warm. I was layered with a smart wool top and fleece, but did not feel the rain or wind with this jacket on.
I've recommended this jacket to several friends.
