Comments about REI Quarter Dome T2 Tent - Special Buy:
This is a great lightweight backpacking tent. This replaced a larger, heavier REI 2-person tent that I've had for about 20 years. The headroom is amazing and with the rain fly, you can stash your gear out of the tent and out of the weather. This tent has performed flawlessly for the last 3 years. Set-up is a bit tricky the first time but with the color coded poles you learn quick. Condensation accumulates sometimes but not enough to complain about.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T2 Tent - Special Buy:
I have used this tent as my primary shelter for Boy Scout campouts. As an Assistant Scoutmaster I have both car camped and backpacked with this tent. I use a long / wide Big Agnes pad in this tent and it fits me, my pad and some gear with room to spare.
When backpacking the vestibule(s) easily covers my Gregory Baltoro 75 backpack.
Rain is shed easily and winds +20 MPH have not been a problem.
I also purchased the footprint and the combination works nicely.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T2 Tent - Special Buy:
Great lightweight tent for backpacking, Easy to set up and pack up fast. Spacious for 2 and without the fly you get a great breeze and view of the stars at night. Only thing is doors are a bit small and awkward to get in/out.

Loved the tent-wish it was a little lighter but I just don't know where you could cut corners. What I like best is that it is free standing.

Carried camping with the Boy Scouts for a weekend and it pour rain the whole time. All equipment stayed dried. Perfect for 1 large man and backpacking equipment. Not suited for 2 large people.

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T2 Tent - Special Buy:
It had been roughly ten years since I have used or purchased a tent. I use a tarp and bivy set up normally but my girlfriend and I have started taking trip and a tent seemed to make sense because we could share the load.
While there are much lighter options out there for 2P tents I believe that oz per oz there isn't a better deal. You can easily shave weight elsewhere in your kit and still save money.
As for the performance of this tent. The pole setup is unique and takes a few tries to get the hang of but after a few [2] run throughs at home I was shocked how fast we were able to get this tent up.
We used this tent only once so far on a three day trip in the everglades where we paddled to East Cape. The conditions were windy, sandy and salty. While we did not experience any rain the tent was exposed to constant wind ranging from 10-25 mph and was super solid. Each morning we found minimal condensation.
As for design. While I'm not a fan of tents in general I believe this one is very well thought out. Two doors each with a vestibule makes life easy as does the fact that these doors when unzipped can be tucked into a mesh pocket on the ceiling [nice touch - can also slip a headlamp in them which is useful]. Some people have said that the zippers aren't robust enough however I found them to be consistent with light weight gear and saw no performance issues.
My only gripe: The tensioning mechanism used on the vestibules for staking out are similar to lineloc buckles [google em] which I really like however I felt that the plastic used [kind of 'gummy'] was slightly below the standards I found for the overall construction of this tent. If they did ever fail it would be an easy and cheap repair [Note: I did not read any accounts of failure in my research].

Comments about REI Quarter Dome T2 Tent - Special Buy:
I am about to purchase my second quarter dome right now online before the older (this) model is gone. I love love love this tent. It is the best tent I have ever used. It's light and you can see the stars. I have used it in pouring rain, high winds on an open meadow, snow, backpacking in the Sierras, and mostly on Indonesian beaches. I work in Indonesia and live in this tent 4 days per week camping on small island beaches doing research. My team has three tents. We use a brand new REI half dome and brand new passage but the old quarter dome is mine. I bought it used 4 years ago and have used it maybe 600 times and it is AWESOME. The door is especially great. I like the mesh fabric because it's hot in Indo and we have fabulous stars. But I have used this tent in 6 inches of snow (accidentally) and I was totally comfy. I just had to kick the ceiling occasionally and make the snow slide off. Sadly, my quarter dome is finally showing its age. Some of the glued seam tape is starting to peel because I leave it in the blazing tropical sun for days on end every week. I plan to keep my old one in Indo for my years of work to come and have a shiny new one waiting for me when I return to the US.
