Comments about REI Switchback Gloves:
I use these for snow shoeing and hunting in the Rocky Mountains. I needed a pair of warm, waterproof and comfortable gloves. They come with a liner which is a must for my use. What sold me on these was a "slick" feature, the cords that tighten and seal off the wrist and mid forearm from cold and snow. You pull one cord to tighten and the cord on the opposite side to loosen. This can be done without taking any of the gloves off. No Velcro or cord clips to fuss with. Easy and very fast. I'm taking my gloves off frequently to adjust equipment and this feature is a big plus.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves:
I originally picked these up for a snowboarding trip. I've used these in numerous cold, snowy, and wet conditions and my hands have always stayed dry and warm. The outer shell has a great grippy palm that I've found is very durable. My favorite thing about these is the removable lining, it basically makes this like two pairs of gloves. I frequently wear the liners by themselves when the outer shell isn't required and they are very warm on their own (though wind goes right through them). Also, the inside of the outer shell has the same (or at least similar) soft material on the inside as the liner, so they're still very comfy even when worn sans liner.
One last thing, I love how easy it is to tighten these gloves. The cuffs come up to mid forearm which provides plenty of overlap with a jacket. It has cords at the wrist and mid forearm to help keep the gloves in place and to keep snow out. To tighten them you just pull a cord that locks at however tight you pull it, then to loosen them you just pull a different cord. It's so simple. I've used many pairs of gloves over the years but none that were this easy to put on, tighten and untighten while wearing both gloves, and remove. So simple.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves:
I received these as a gift. I wear just the liners when I'm going to work or something. I wear the whole thing when I am skiing-which they do great at. Plus the longer sleeves make it harder to have snow get in them.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves:
Returned item, I got about 300 yds from my house in 30 degree temps and fingers cold. Ok I would try when I left work. Walking to my bike and I could feel the wind go through the very light inner glove to my fingers, it was 40 degrees out. I got home and told my wife to feel my fingers and she said they were freezing. They look impressive but are not. The inner glove feels like silk material and basically its a shell with a silk glove inside. I do not see how that keeps you warm. I would suggest these for temps 50 degrees or so.

After about 20 minutes hiking in +15 degree air temp (about 0 degree windchill) my hands started getting cold.

Comments about REI Switchback Gloves:
I've been using these gloves close to 10 years now. I am on my second pair and they've worn out with splits between the fingers, but REI will pro-rate and apply some value to my next purchase on these gloves. Great Gloves - I ski 30-40 days a year and prefer foul weather (POWDER DAZE). These are always warm, dry and toasty.
