After trying everything from cowboy coffee, percolators, drip cones, and even stove top automatic drip coffee makers, this so far seems like the best solution for making coffee for larger groups while car camping or rafting trips. It packs up much smaller than the auto drip makers, doesn't have a glass carafe (or anything else, really) that can break, and doesn't require separate filters. It makes coffee much quicker than a percolator or cone filter, and makes very good coffee without the "murk" that can sometimes plague a French press design. The unused coffee grounds can be easily stored in the coffee maker in zip-lock bags for travel, and it will keep the coffee hot for a long time after brewing. Clean up is a simple rinse out of the carafe and plunger. If there is a downside, it is that the insulated carafe cannot be used to heat the water directly on a stove top. You will need separate pot to boil water to pour into the press.

Makes a great cup of coffee, the mesh in the spout filters out any coffee grounds that get past the plunger.

It's large capacity serves 4-5 people a decent size cup.

Simple and rugged design.

Highly Recommended

As the title states this is a "Must Have" product when car camping. Dump coffee grounds in, pour hot water in, steep for about 5-10 and then pour into a cup. Doesn't get any easier than that! Hot coffee with no grounds to chew on make this great for a car camping trip!

I bought this for car camping with the family so we'd have plenty o' java for mom and dad in the morning. After the first camping trip, it has not been packed up with the other gear. It has stayed in the kitchen and it used every day! After three months of daily use, it's in good shape. The seal around the top has become a bit loose, but does not affect the performance at all. Overall, love this coffee press! It is my favorite REI purchase this year!
