Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

I got these boots for the cold winters in Western PA and I work and play outside often. I really like the fit of the boot, they are comfortable, sturdy, have great support and are warm, although they do cut into the tops of my toes. These boots run a bit on the small side, about half a size. The lacing eye slits on the top of these boots are to tightly made and make it very difficult to lace without having to use two hands on one eye slits at a time. I have had them for about a month and have used them quite often so they should have loosened but have not.

I would recommend these to anyone who needs good weatherproof boots that keep your feet warm. I have given these boots a 4 of 5 stars because there are certain issues that I have listed above. I hope this helps you to decide if they are right for you.

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

A solid snow boot. The interior padding is quite lush and it has a nice feel when walking/hiking. The boot looks great and kept my feet nice and dry when tromping though deep powder. I also enjoyed just wearing this around town when it was below freezing to just keep my feet warm. Definitely recommend.

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

I absolutely love this line of boots and would highly recommend it for those who are going to be out in the sloppy, wet, cold, or deeper snow. I originally purchased an earlier model of this boot and put more than a handful of winters in it. I always keep a couple pairs of serious winter boots on-hand and this has been my hands down favorite. After number of years of pretty constant (if not hard) use, one of the seams gave way rendering that pair useless. Just as solid as the boot was, Northface was even better and my boot problems were covered under their awesome product warranty. I have been enjoying my new Baltoros and am just as impressed as when I got them.

I do have to say, I can understand what individuals are saying about being bulky, slightly harder to clasp, and perhaps slightly overstated in size. Compared to a number of my other boots though I'd say that most boots in this class tend to be a bit more bulky and the Baltoro 400's almost tend to be lighter than many of it's counterparts. In this pair I did note that I run a little larger in size compared to standard shoe sizing, but once you figure that out to begin with you're set. Lastly, while the clasps are somewhat frusterating, I'll take a slightly longer tieing time for the better fit and outdoor performance in various settings.

These boots are great! I have really comfortable snowboarding boots (I thought), but after 8 hours in my boarding boots, I take them off and slip into these bad boys...Needless to say my boarding boots are really not ver comfortable. North Face should make snowboarding boots!

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

They're really comfortable and lightweight boots. However after third day of walking on snow, I started feeling my feet are getting wet. These boots are not waterproof as advertised. Maybe it was just the one I bought, don't know. But I returned it and replaced with a different brand.

      Service and delivery comments:

REI customer service was really helpful, as always.

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

As others have stated, these boots run small. I normally wear a 11.5-12, but got the 13 and they fit fine with regular REI hiking socks. Large bulky or expedition grade socks would be too tight of a fit.
Went out in some very thick powdery snow lower teens for a high. Feet stayed warm and dry. Traction was good.
As for the top two boot lace retainers, others complained about getting the laces in. I simply pinched the material, and gave a slight twist to open the plastic retainer. Laces slipped in easily.
Also used these boots for snowshoeing. No problems, feet stayed warm and dry even in drifts.

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

Purchased these boots on "clearance" for both work and recreation. Read the previous reviews noting the quick lace clips and their difficulty to use, they're not. The laces are a flat style, when slid under the clip "skinny side" there is no issue whatsoever. After at least 100 laces, I've only had hang ups a few times while wearing heavy gloves.

Boots are very comfortable, breathe very well during extended exertions.

Boots run 1/2 to a full size small. Great boots, will edit in my long term review in 6-12 months.

Comments about The North Face Baltoro 400 III Winter Boots - Men's:

These boots have a stiff rocker sole so you can't move your toes. After trying these again and walking around for a day, my feet were very cold and they fell asleep. I went for a run the next day and my calfs were killing me. Turns out the rocker sole puts strain on ones calfs. They look good, but that is the only positive thing about this boot. The plastic lace catches don't work without careful placement and multiple tries. The stiff rocker design doesn't enhance this boot. I'm disapointed that North Face doesn't field test their products before sending them to market.
