The North Face Baltoro 400 III boots let you choose your own winter stomping grounds, with a sturdy waterproof construction and -40°F rating that will keep your feet warm just about anywhere.

Mid-calf uppers made from waterproof nubuck leather and reinforced with seam sealing; D-rings attach to your gaiters for a more complete seal against snow and debris
PrimaLoft® Eco 400g insulation—derived from recycled materials—paves a path to warmth and comfort
Dri-Lex® fleece linings are soft and moisture-wicking for a cozy fit all day long
Compression-molded EVA midsoles provide lightweight, flexible and impact-resistant cushioning
Removable dual-density footbeds deliver extra padding under heel and forefoot

Great comfortable boot except for the top two lace holders - you have to physically push the laces into the holders - you can not just sweep them in for quick lacing. The lace holders are recessed into the boot leather, and the laces are too wide to make for easy quick lacing. It's a shame as the boots are really nice - stylish, comfortable and warm. I am returning the boots.

I couldn't be any more pleased with a boot that meets my winter needs. They go on in a snap and come off very easy too, not sure why people are griping about the way they lace up because I find it very convenient to apply tension where I need it most. They are a bit bulky but walk very well, if you want negative temperature comfort and protection then you will have to understand that bulk comes with that comfort and protection. I've found so far that they grab on ice and snow very well, I haven't felt unstable yet. You can't beat the quality, looks and specs these boots offer you for the price. Very happy with my purchase, in fact so happy I bought my son TNF Chilkats and he parade's in the snow like he's invincible. Thank you REI and TNF for making and offering a great product as always. FYI, this is my first NF purchase and it will not be my last.

OK for a boot made in China (but where can you find a boot these days that are not made in a communist totalitarian state). Takes a little bit to break in, but they are warm and breathe well. They work very well in snow and for snow shoeing. Don't think they're worth MSRP (I purchased at a discount), but like I said, good luck finding a well made product from the United States or a place that doesn't use slave or child labor. REI like most retailers seem to go for the Chinese connection with their products. Hopefully they'll offer more products that are made in the United States rather than potential adversaries. I only purchased these boots because there was no domestically produced boot offered at REI or other like retailers.

Wasted my money on these boots. Would not recommend. Second day of work in the first cold snap of -2 and my feet were numb the entire time I was working. Also the laces are a joke. you have to use both hands to try twist and turn the hooks and lace just to get it in. The boots rubbed my ankles raw after 2 days, but that could be because i didnt have them very tight because of the lace hooks. I am returning.

Others have noted that these are sized small. I wear 12 in most boots and ordered 14 to be able to wear fat socks and a pair of liners too. The 14s fit just right. Other complaints noted the top lace hooks are hard to use. Just grab from the inside and bend back to open hooks a bit. Haven't been in snow yet, but they feel like they will be quit warm. The treads also look like they will handle mud and snow well.

Some people complained about the difficulty of the grommets on top of the boot, but I haven't had a problem with them at all. In fact, because they are a little recessed, they don't accidentally "hook" the bottom of a pair of pants or the other boot laces etc..

Good things - Feel solid. Unlike some winter boots i have had in the past these don't feel like you are walking in a sponge the whole time. They have nice solid insoles. They take just a day to break in.

I agree with other reviewers that they are a bit of a pain to get the top of the lace in the fastener, there are far better designs esp if you are tying them with thick gloves on.

Wait for them to go on sale and you will enjoy them all the more!
