Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Women's:
Purchased these for my wife for a backpacking trip. I also go the same pants for myself. The zip off legs are great. Plenty of pockets for items that you use a lot during the day. My favorite pocket was the small zippered pocket that fit my ID and CC perfectly.
Have not had them long so not sure of the durablility yet, but they survived 27 miles with no sign of ware.
My wife did say that they seem large for the size printed on them. Started with a size 8 and had to go down to a size 6.

I bought three pairs of these pants in 10 Regular last summer, and wore them hiking to the point that one pair ripped and I patched them. Except for their small pocket size, they were perfect for me. (See my August 2012 review). This year I bought one new pair and ordered a second, same 10 Regular as last year. I got the new pair I bought home and realized that they were an inch and half longer than last year--I measured them against a pair bought last summer. This extra length makes the new ones unwearable for me as it is not a simple matter to hem a pant with a zipper running down to the bottom. Too bad! To REI: please either keep the sizing of these pants consistent or give them some other name.

So disappointing to see that REI persists in these less functional versions of the zip off pants. I am still using the ones I bought years ago even though they are getting quite worn. But at least I can carry maps and other handy supplies and know that they will not fall out. Can't you have ONE version for active hikers and the rest for fashion?

I Purchased these pants to wear in Hawaii and since I was staying in Waimea which can be quite chilly in the morning and yet when you head down to the harbor it can be very warm so the zip off part of the pants was very handy. However I got a size 16 since i couldn't even close the 14 to zip it up, and they were a bit too large and also too long. I was stepping on the backs of them all the time. The Velcro didn't go tight enough to make them not hit the ground.

Unfortunately I had to return the product as I did not try on and the cut was not standard to the size . Poor fit.

Great product. Light weight and seems really sturdy. Zips are easy to remove and reattach. Easy to clean. Pretty long, so be careful on sizing there, but with hiking boots, it fit perfectly.

Recently used these in Mazunte Mexico and in Mexico City. The shorts half were used in Mazunte during a spay/neuter project conducted outdoors in 90+ degree heat. They washed and held up beautifully to relatively harsh working conditions (lots of sun, wrestling in the sand/dirt, various fluids, getting scraped along the ground regularly). The pants were used in Mexico City for simply walking around (but essential since I had flown north from the 90+ degree weather that same day). The fit was a little off for me (the waist sat way higher than I was used to) and bunched oddly when sitting. Belt system wasn't the greatest or the most comfortable. Fabric however breathes really well and dries great in a short time (essential in heat and when you have small space requirements during travel).

I saw these on sale for an excellent price. There are 2 colors - khaki and dark gray although the sale price only applied to the gray. I tried on both and found the legs on the gray pair were much wider than the khaki. I purchased the gray because of the great price but they look very baggy in the legs.

I bought these pants for backpacking and was looking forward to using them. Unfortunately they are a really weird fit. Fit my waist and thighs just fine, but on the rest of the leg they are huge and long. I will have to tailor them to fit me correctly - although that will be hard due to all the zippers!!! I'm 5'6", so it is not like I'm super short.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Women's:
I ask a lot of my travel clothes. I tried dozens of styles. It's amazing how many "hiking" pants are unsuited for hiking! I wanted pants that converted to mid-length shorts (Capris aren't cool enough, 9-10" shorts interfere with my stride), easy pack, fast drying, have cuffs that fit over hiking boots, have useful pockets, and fit well. I should have started at REI! These have everything.
I'm 5'7", 32" inseam, 150lbs, waist 30", hip 39". I usually wear an 8 in REI pants, and am happy with 8R in these.
They're light, water bounces off the fabric, both colors are easy to match with my travel shirts.
There are color-matched zippers at the thigh, with a nice flap under the zip so no scratching, and one over to hide the zip from rain. The removable leg has full-length zips (unzips from bottom to top) with ripstick tab at the top and cuff. Yes, the legs are baggy and high-waist isn't fashionable, but the fit at waist/hip/rear is good. And they fit over baselayers without pulling or binding.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Make zip go top to bottom instead, to open a few inches for venting on the thigh. Make the lower leg slightly slimmer for more attractive look. Give front pockets a deep, mesh liner for breathability and a secure closure for more utility.
