by fromSTILL DISAPPOINTING I use these pants for in hiking places like the Appalachian Trail or national trails in England and want to be able to store a map, cell phone, toiletries in the front pockets when wearing a pack. The old, old version (which I am still limping along with) had such pockets for years. These seem designed as a decoration. Can't recommend their functionality for serious hiking.

by fromPant leg was huge The pant leg was huge on this pants such that it looked like there was a balloon of material around my thighs. I am normally a 0 or a 2 in petite (5' 1", 110 pounds) but I suspect this is the design of the pants. The waist fit mine though so maybe its good for folks with small waists.

by fromPlease go back to the old style I have had several older (4+ years) pairs of the REI convertible pants that I wear almost every day. They were getting very old and I wanted to replace them. I am 5'7" and have always worn a size 14 women's. The version I had came with a black nylon web belt and the "clasp" clicked together like a dog collar might (very secure). The new version is about 2 inches too long in the legs. Fortunately the petite size was the right length. My old pants were more of a light tan color. The new ones are more an army khaki with a greenish shade to them. I wasn't happy with the color but I was willing to accept it. However, the feature which caused me to return the pants was the side pockets (the ones that are open, not velcro'd). I usually put my cell phone in one side and my keys in the other. The "depth" of the pockets are only about one-half to two-thirds as deep as my old pants. The old ones went well below the side pocket that was velcro'd. I found that the phone and other things had a tendency to fall out (I don't like my pants really tight-fitting). I don't know why the new pants pockets are so shallow. It was a deal breaker for me and I returned the 3 pairs I had bought. I really wish that REI would go back to the old model. I will look each year with the hope that they will change back to what I think was a better design.

by fromFrumpy pants I have my sahara convertible pants from 2008 and I love them so much. I wear them all the time...but the model is no longer available. so I thought i would give this a try....very disappointed. material is thin and poor quality, looks frumpy and lazy, too long, pockets are not useful, looks horrible overall. i am very disappointed. Needless to say I returned it. REI, please bring back the 2008 model, PLEASE!!!!

by fromNot the same Sahara I have worn these pants for many years and loved them, so I thought before REI changed the style, as so often happens to my favorite items, I would pick up a pair before they change these, too. Too late. I am 5'8", 140, and had to go to a 6 Petite to get a good fit. 6 Petite? They run very large and very long. I can accept the false flattery of wearing a small size, but it is the quality that made me leave them at the store during the 40% off sale. The fabric is very thin and not trail/rock worthy in my opinion. The pockets are mere decoration. REI, PLEASE leave your best sellers alone, there is a reason they are best sellers. Thanks.

by fromWeird fit I bought these pants for backpacking and was looking forward to using them. Unfortunately they are a really weird fit. Fit my waist and thighs just fine, but on the rest of the leg they are huge and long. I will have to tailor them to fit me correctly - although that will be hard due to all the zippers!!! I'm 5'6", so it is not like I'm super short.

by fromSahara Convertible pants I Purchased these pants to wear in Hawaii and since I was staying in Waimea which can be quite chilly in the morning and yet when you head down to the harbor it can be very warm so the zip off part of the pants was very handy. However I got a size 16 since i couldn't even close the 14 to zip it up, and they were a bit too large and also too long. I was stepping on the backs of them all the time. The Velcro didn't go tight enough to make them not hit the ground.
