Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
I love this bag. I had a similar one a few years ago but it was bigger and not as functional. This one is well made like any Patagonia product and very functional. The small pocket on the strap is supposed to be for a cell phone, apparently of generations past because no smartphone will fit. But the small outside lined pocket that is designed for sunglasses works great for a smartphone. I also have found the inside pockets to be very functional. The straps are also very functional and can be adjusted for wearing across either shoulder/back and the excess strap you might not be using can be slid into a small pocket designed for this, and easily pulled back out for quick use. The only drawback I am having is that it is designed to be worn over the shoulder so it can be slid under the left arm for easy access to the main pockets. This would be fantastic, but it feels backwards for me to wear it that way. I prefer to wear it crossing my back opposite, so when I slide it around under my right arm, I cannot reach the pockets.
I am not a purse type of person, and running into the grocery store with my regular backpack is ridiculous. But so is trying to carry my keys, phone, wallet, list and shopping bags in hand. This back meets perfectly in the middle. It holds the necessities while not being the burden of a purse. And with all the straps, its hands free! Overall this is a very well made and functional bag and I am very happy with it.
I have it in the Larimar blue, which I like better in person than in the photo.

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
This bag is excellent to use when you want to carry only the essentials on the run. The strap adjusts to a comfortable fit even after the bag has been filled to capacity. Expanding the color selection would be a plus.

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
I bought the Atom Sling specifically for when I travel. I use this instead of a normal purse. I just returned from a trip to Cali and I loved this bag! I could fit a kindle, wallet, keys, sunglasses and other odds and ends in the bag. When we spent an afternoon on the beach I could easily throw in a packable jacket. I had this on during two very long days in an amusment park and it never bothered my shoulders once.
Patagonia really thought things through when designing this bag. The small zipper pocket was a great spot for my cell phone, hotel key etc. The main compartment's zippered opening is perfect. When I needed to pull something out, no need to remove the bag (like with backpacks). I could just swing the pack around the the front leaving the bag on then grab what I needed.
If you are looking for a small day pack, this is a great option.

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
I bought this pack on New Year's Eve when I realized I my dividend was about to expire within hours and I'm glad I did. I was seriously injured in a hiking accident in July 2011 and I still use a cane to help out when I get tired and this pack is great for my rehab walkabouts.
This pack is tremendously easy to get on and off and it's easy to carry, even when I get tired and lean more heavily on the cane. It carries my necessaries, including a bottle of water, gloves, and a light wind jacket using the attached straps. The padded pocket on the strap is on the small side, as others have noted, but I find it handy for storing my lip balm. All in all, this handy little pack has earned its place in my gear room (and that's saying a lot when I've been enjoying outdoor pursuits since my teen years back in the late sixties!)

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
Love this bag. I bought it for a trip to Disneyland since I hate carrying around backpacks that you have to constantly rearrange to fit on the rides. It holds a surprising amount of stuff-I had my big wallet, a jacket, camera, and little incidentals all nicely packed into this thing. I loved it so much that I use it every day for my "purse" and get countless complements on how cool it looks and how conveniently it works. The straps along the back even hold an additional jacket when my boyfriend wants me to carry his too! it also has straps that can go around your waist if you're in a position where you want the pack tigher to your body. The only thing I'd change is the pocket in the front strap would be nice if it was big enough to hold an iPhone. I can fit it in the fabric lined side pocket (which also nicely holds a pair of sunglasses), but it would be much more convenient if I didn't have to slide the pack to answer my phone. Since the phone doesn't fit, it does fit a chapstick and ID/credit cards, and park passes quite nicely. Excellent purchase. Highly recommend. The picture I included shows the size of the bag, but it's slung to the side because I had just gotten my camera out. Normally it fits flat right in the middle of the back.

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
I carry the Atom on longer bike rides. I can put a rain jacket, gels, and sometimes two 20oz water bottles in it, all at the same time. It's small enough to not create a sweat spot on my back. I also use it for walks and hikes. It serves well in multiple everyday/specialized uses.

Comments about Patagonia Atom Sling Pack:
I loved the Victorinox sling bag of similar design, I had it for many many years - but the new ones just didn't quite cut it when it was recently time to replace. This bag has improved on the Victorinox design and added many great features and a bit more space - while still keeping it a minimal size and easy to carry. This bag finds a use non-stop for me ... city commuting, hiking, travel, day pack, etc. I use it almost every day and LOVE IT. I'm a bag geek and really appreciate a well-designed bag.
Wish the strap pocket was a little bigger, otherwise it's a great design.

Just the right size for everyday commuting. Holds all I need and can shift from purse-type to backpack in seconds. Lightweight and plenty of zippered pockets to keep things in place.
