Comments about Mad River Explorer 16 KX Ultralite Canoe:
This is a beautiful boat, and is very lightweight.
My family and I were looking to purchase a recreational canoe; one of sensible weight, and did not require a "Macho Man" physic to load and unload.
The lightweight Kevlar style caught our eye, but reviews were scarce on the web.
We took a chance, and ordered the Mad River ultralight. Simply stated - The boat is beautiful!
Ultra Light means, Ultra light. Compared to traditional canoe weights, the ultra light is surprisingly lightweight (as-advertised) and tough! The boat wears well, and we couldn't be happier with its performance on the water. It rides higher in the water, too, which
Aside from the shipping frustration, I would highly recommend it to anyone considering purchase. REI's customer service is top notch, and I would hate to think what could have happed if we went elsewhere (ref shipping comments).
Service and delivery comments:
Shipping/Receiving was a bit of a challenge/frustration, but REI came through with five stars regarding customer service.
A total of three boats were ordered; with two of them being damaged in transit from the REI warehouse to the store. The final boat came directly from the manufactuer (in original crate) and was beautiful.
These boats are hand-made, so duration in between orders was lengthy (adding the total duration of time together between the boats ordered).
Hopefully my experience will help REI locate the root cause to the damage, so that others will not experience the same disapointment and delay.
Was this a gift?:
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
