Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I have had several pairs of these pants over the years, through at least 3 redesigns. My favorite pair of comfortable pants for hiking, backpacking, and even work. I really wish they were more consistently available. It looks like they will be discontinued from what I can see on trying to order them - not happy about that!
BTW - am a woman ordering man's pants because they provide better fit than the "women's" versions! Of course it would be nice if there were more larger-petite versions of the women's clothes!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I am extremely pleased with these pants. I recently wore them ice climbing, with a base layer underneath, and found them flexible and comfortable with a harness on. Also, with a base layer underneath, they were the perfect light/breathable pants to wear while snowshoeing. I definitely don't regret buying them, and I look forward to wearing them during the spring.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I just got the Mistral pants as a gift and they are so comfortable that I've started to wear them around the house even when I don't plan on going outside. One warning though ... I found them to be a little slim fitting (like wearing skinny jeans). I actually ended up sizing up, which I found to be a little loose. I wish they made odd sizes.

Great pants. Comfortable and light. I use these on business casual days, travel, outdoors in all but the coldest days (in the south). Can stretch out if you wear several days but snaps back after washing.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I use these on my daily bike commute when the temperature drops to the low 50's F and colder. They keep me warm down to about 30F and I add a layer of thermal underwear with colder temps. These pants are perfect for my bike commute: They are black, so they won't show chain oil; They are stretchy, especially in the knees; They are windproof; They are water resistant; they dry quickly; and, They don't look like geeky bike pants. They could use two more belt loops, for a total of seven, and the front pockets could be about two inches deeper. Other than that, I am satisfied with this product.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Light pants, suitable for summer hikes or possibly a top layer over a base layer in colder conditions.
Reasonably ventilated and very comfortable. They do stretch a bit thanks to the spandex content, so the range of motion is quite good (convenient when trying to get a leg up during rock climbing).
Could use some side cargo pockets since the climbing harness pretty much seals off the side pockets - but not a big deal.
They do make a "swoosh" sound when you walk, if this kind of thing bothers you :)
I did only use them twice so far so can't comment about durability.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Incredibly versatile pants, work very well in sub zero temperatures to block wind and snow when paired with a mid layer such as fleece. Not too hot on their own while active in 60 degree F weather. Resist water, but will absorb moisture if you sit down in the snow or rest on your knees. Best of all they look enough like normal pants to be worn around town on my hitchhiking trips.
My only complaint is that after about a month of wearing them, several seams were becoming un-stitched. They still hold together as they are double seamed, but I will need to resew them eventually.

If you like pants that fit, are not bulky but are very comfortable, look good, withstand a good bit of wear and tear, you're going really enjoy these pants.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
My go-to pant for just about everything. Light and breathable enough for warmer winter days and all through the fall, but definitely warm enough for winter or altitude when paired with long underwear. Also sheds light moisture and rain pretty well and dries quickly.
I've mostly used them for climbing, travel, hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing.
The waist has a decent amount of stretch, never too much, and the fabric is crazy stretchy and never limited my movement at all. Wasn't sure what a "gusseted crotch" was when I bought these or how useful it would be, but it's basically outdoor speak for "awesome". You can practically do the splits and heel hook in these pants without any discomfort. Easily accommodates any boot size with the ankle zips.
My only minor gripes have been with the pockets. The front pockets zip, which is nice but really limits their size. More of a personal issue, since in most situations you'll have a pack or something to carry most things. The only real problem I had was with the stitching in the back pockets. My first major trip out with them I did a little glissading, probably about five minutes, and when I got down the mountain I realized the stitching on the bottom of the pockets had just sheared completely off. Double-stitched them when I got home and they've been fine ever since, so that might be worth doing ahead of time if you see yourself wearing out the seat.
