Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Comments about Novara Firefly 12'' Kids' Bike - 2012:

I purchased this for my daughter's 3 year old birthday last year. She loves riding it. I was torn on whether to spend the extra money on this bike vs a bike from a big box store. I think the extra money spent was well worth it. The quality is great and she has been able to grow into this bike compared to her friends that have bikes from big box stores. As a note, she takes her bike to school for bike day and is the fastest out of the group of 20- I would like to think it's because of her mad biking skills, but I'm pretty sure it's because her bike is built a bit better than the others. I also like that REI assembles the bike and offers a 1 year tune-up.

The only con is that one of the handlebar streamers feel off after a few months. I took the other one off and she doesn't seem to miss it.
