Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
This jacket is very versatile. The sleeves unzip and come off so if the day starts out cold and warms up, you can convert to a vest in no time at all. I use it for golf on days were it begins cold then warms up. The fit it perfect, and the detachable hood is a plus. Very nice product at a very reasonable sale price.

This is a great, and versitile jacket. I purchased it mainly for travel because its light, warm and stylish, but it still rugged enough to be warn on an adventure.

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
This jacket has PrimaLoft which is an alternative to down which was important to me because I try to buy shoes/clothing that have minimal animal products. It turns out that PrimaLoft is actually better at keeping your warm and its waterproof in comparison to feathers/down. I paid less than $100 dollars and is the best warm jacket I have owned.

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
My previous Spruce Run is now too large for me. I bought this to give me a slightly more snug fit. The fit is good for my frame 6'1" 175lbs. Still a little generous in the stomach, but that is handy when I want to stuff the pockets. It has been a warm winter so far but we had a cool period recently (8F) and I found myself very comfortable walking with a cotton (casual) polo, Polartec fleece and this jacket.
I look forward to trying the coat snowshoeing a 14er this winter. The previous model worked just fine.

Most versatile jacket I have ever owned. REI needs to make more of these types of clothing options.

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
Since long time I was looking for a jacket which will server in winter and which will also protect against light rain. However most of the times I could find ones which were wither very puffy/heavy or too expensive (>150$).
This one is light yet very warm and its smart fit. it doesnt feel plasicy yet its water repellant. I am using it since last couple ofmonth and so far i dont have any complaints

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
Bought this jacket on 1/2 price sale and so glad i did.
Got it to layer under a Berghaus Goretex parka for added warmth vs a fleece liner. Nice and light weight windproof and water resistant and packs down well. Very useful zipper pockets everywhere. The arms and hood can be stowed in a storage pocket in the back. Sheds light rain though i would not trust it for heavier weather.
Had it a few months now for 30s-40s weather and it is my jacekt of choice- much more so than a fleece. Its warm with just a light shirt in mid 30s when walking- add a thin fleece layer underneath and im quite warm even in the 20s when active. Havent had chance to see how it stands up to colder weather.
Im 5-8 and the arms are a tad long but all in all very happy with the buy

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
This is a great all around jacket!!!
I wanted both a vest and a jacket but as a recent college graduate, couldn't afford both. I found this jacket and couldn't be happier! It's a stylish jacket with concleaed zippers that can transform between a vest, a jacket or a jacket with a hood (definitely does not look like the old nerdy zip off pants thought).
It's got a great athletic fit and is really warm. I use it everywhere from around my house to as a mid-layer while skiing in zero degree weather.
It's also great for traveling/backpacking since it folds up in a small storage sack built into the back.
My one suggestion for improvement to REI would be to relocate the zipper of the storage sack to the bottom of the jacket's hem. It can be a little uncomfortable on the back if you're sitting down, but this is a very minor issue that shouldn't deter you. Just a simple suggestion to improve a great product.
Overall a great product that I'm completely satisfied with!!!

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
I usually wear hooded fleece jackets, I took a chance on this jacket because it was on sale - wow, this is SO much more comfortable than any fleece jacket I own! The fit is very comfortable for layering over a flannel shirt - and it's toasty warm, even on a rainy day in the high 30's over just a t-shirt. I never thought I would consider using a jacket like this for backpacking but it is so versatile with the removable hood and sleeves, and it's light and packable. In a short period of time this has become my go-to jacket; great job as usual, REI.

Comments about REI Spruce Run Jacket - Men's:
I bought a Spruce Run jacket sometime in 2007 I believe and the first one, after owning it for about 6months had some sort of seaming defect. There was a thread that traveled inside the insullation through the middle of the chest on the jacket to the bottom left (I could feel it stretch as I moved or bent) and it was unraveling other seems and pulling out the stitching. REI replaced it, as usual, no questions asked.
The second one I received was perfect. I've since gone around the world (winters in Europe, Turkey and New Zealand and many other places during non-winter weather) with this awesome thing - literally the most light-weight, warm, versatile jacket I could imagine and it packs down in a stuff-sack the size of large grapefruit (maybe just slighter bigger). Amazing. I've ripped or burned it in three small places and repaired those spots using clear tent repair tape (which is amazing stuff all by itself as all of the patches have stayed perfectly in place for between 1 and 3 years so far - it's called "Gear Aid Tenacious Tape" by the way) and the jacket just keeps going. It is frayed in places now and I don't think it lofts quite as much as it used to but it still keeps me ridiculously warm, *especially* when you consider you hardly know you're wearing it because it's so light and moves well.
It is definitely not water-proof, and the water resistance that many here talk about fades away after just a few months use (and I've tried reapplying coating sprays of differnt kinds but that never works very well or for long)... it eventually becomes rather water *absorbant* BUT, when it is wet it is *still* warm, and more than that, it dries faster than anything you can imagine.
My original version had slightly different styling, zippers, this and that and no hood. But I'm here at REI today buying one for my lady (the women's "Nevis" jacket) and an updated 2nd one for me. It's that awesome. Well thought out and worth every penny - can't praise this jacket enough. Include it in a layering scheme and you'll be good for years - trust me, I have been.
