Comments about Keen Gypsum Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
I bought a pair of boot before these and ended up returning them and buying these. I love these boots and cannot wait for my next trip so I can get my feet into them. They are comfortable and waterproof! I walked through a couple small creeks without my feet getting any bit wet. The outside became dry only after a short time. I have weak ankles and was looking for a pair of boots that would help support my ankle and these are the perfect boots to do that for me. The only con I have regarding these shoes would be the lacing. Although I guess I could say they are tough, I am not sure if I like them or not because everytime I go on a trip I have to be careful or I will get blisters on my fingers from tying my boots.

Comments about Keen Gypsum Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
I switched to the Gypsum from the Targhee Mid because the Targhee wore too quickly and started leaking in less than a year. I was hoping that the Gypsum would be more durable, but the sole in particular did not wear well. Also, the Gympsum doesn't have the Secure-fit lace capture system of the Targhee, just the metal hooks, so the lacing slipped, and tore the shoes laces. Bottom line for me though, Keen is the most comfortable boot out there, and I'm going to buy another pair even though I don't think it's a high-quality boot.

Purchased this item a month before our hiking trip. I never got the chance to break them in (totally forgot to) but I went ahead and wore it on a 14 mile hike at Big Bend, TX. All I can say is that these shoes are fantastic, I never got blisters, no redness, no sore areas around my feet\toes. I did started feeling a little bit of pain around the high top of the shoe but that was because I didn't tie my shoes tight enough when going down the mountain. We didn't get any rain so I really cannot comment on that part, but the trails were extremely rocky and rugged and never felt any of the rocks at all. These are just perfect!

I am a weekend hiker and have been thrilled with these boots right out of the box. I have high arches, wide feet and ankle issues. These boots are more comfortable than my running shoes, and they are machine washable! I will be buying another pair soon as I would like to have one pair strictly for hiking and another pair for more regular use. You need to try this boot on. I had to purchase 1/2 size larger than normal but it has been a perfect fit.

Comments about Keen Gypsum Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
These felt great in the store, when I wore them around my house, and at the beginning of my hiking trip. But soon the top edge started putting pressure on the outside of my ankles every time I stepped. It was subtle at first, but after miles of hiking became quite painful. After a couple days of a backpacking trip, and about 16 miles of hiking, they got so painful that I had to take them off and switch to my sandals. My ankles felt bruised and tender. It wasn't a constant pressure, just that they bumped into my ankle every time I took a step. The lower part was incredibly comfortable, no blisters or anything, so I was disappointed these didn't work for me. Because of that, I would say these could be a great boot for people who walk differently than I do. I assume it doesn't cause this problem for everyone, so I will say there are a lot of great things about these boots...just be careful about that aspect. I will be returning these for something with a softer ankle support.

I absolutely love these boots. I tried on approximately 12 pairs of boots and just couldn't find any that even compared in fit or comfort to these. I tried a different brand also and they just did not work and hurt my feet. I settled on these Keen's and did a 6 mile hike the 2nd time I wore them. And then did another 6 miles the next day (3rd time). They performed excellently with no break-in. Parts of the hike was thru water and they did well in those conditions also. I would highly recommend these Keen's for both performance and comfort.

I have very wide feet across the toe joints and have trouble finding and then breaking in comfortable boots. My feet breathed a sigh of relief when I first put these on and I wore them right out of the box on a very strenuous 4 day, X country backpack in the Idaho Sawtooth Mts. They are perfect for my feet and needs.

Comments about Keen Gypsum Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
These are possibly the most comfortable mid-weight boots I have ever owned. On my first backpacking trip with these boots, however, the top-most fabric eyelet on one of the boots tore at the seam. It was a simple repair with needle and thread, but I expect it to happen again.
Then I took the boots back to REI and tried on a new pair, same size, but they felt completely different. Apparently Keen has some consistency issues, and I decided to keep the boots with the field repair.
I love these boots so much I am willing to put up with their one flaw. However, I will not be going on any long hikes without heavy duty thread and needle!

Comments about Keen Gypsum Mid Hiking Boots - Women's:
Let me start by saying, I love Keen boots. I have owned two different pairs now and have never been able to find a more comfortable boot. During the summers I hike at least 5 days a week with the average distance being 10-15 miles per day. I have never had any problems with sores or blisters in my other Keen boots. I should mention that Keen boots do fall apart particularly quickly, but given the distances that I hike, I have no problem buying a new pair every 1-2 years. Typically a pair of Keen boots will last me 2 years.
However, I just purchased these boots a week ago and could not even make it on a 5 mile hike without discomfort. The problem for me was the "mid" ankle support was creating a bruise on my right leg above the ankle. I believe that on this style the mid top is slightly higher than on the Targhee Keen boot. When hiking the mid top seems to rub and push against the area above my ankle the wrong way, becoming very uncomfortable. I would suggest before purchasing these, walk around in the store with them and be sure the mid top isn't creating any discomfort. I will be returning these in exchange for the Targhee. This is slightly disappointing because I think these boots have several construction improvements compared to the Targhee. They seem to have a different sole material and slightly sturdier sole construction, especially around the back heel.

I bought these for hiking and going on camping trips when there is a risk for rain. Last weekend, it poured where we went camping and my feet stayed completely dry. They were warm and comfortable for all day hiking in the cold and wet weather on trails and while spelunking.
