First of all I just got this bag after hours and hours of hands on research. It is the most expensive because it is the most comfortable bag to carry and extremely functional. I actually bought last year's model for nearly half-price from my local REI store. OMG, what a deal. I travel to Thailand 4 times a year. You have to be able to carry all your gear in one bag because once you are outside Bangkok, the taxis become small motorcycles. If you can't put your luggage on your back and ride a motorcycle, you either get to walk in 95 degree heat (not a good choice) or wait 2 hours for a taxi that charges you twice as much because you are American Farang(LOL). I also have degenerative disk disease so carrying tons of weight for a long distance is very hard on me even though I am a very strong athlete. This bag is big and meant to be checked on a series of long flights to Asia. I have never had anything lost on Korean Airlines so no worry about checking the wheeled part. I carry my medical supplies (insulin, etc.) in the detachable pack and other non-liquid necessities (I am not allowed to say more). Anyway, spend the money and get the best money can buy. Go cheap and you will always be disappointed! One-hundred more dollars is nothing compared to what you will spend on a month long international trip!

Comments about Eagle Creek Switchback Max Wheeled Travel Pack - 25'':
I bought this wheeled bag/backpack combo for a recent trip to Chile and Argentina. I picked it primarily for the sleeve on the daypack that allows it to be securely placed on top of the suitcase so that both bags can be stylishly wheeled together. On this trip, I never had the need to use the backpack straps on the main bag, but it was nice to know that they were there. (I recommend one of Osprey's wheel-less backpacks if you plan to carry your bag on your back a lot.) Initially, I wasn't too crazy about the way this bag looked, but I had learned to love it by the end of my trip. It was just the right size, not too big or bulky when I needed to lift it up, but big enough to fit a good size wardrobe, some new purchases and several bottles of Argentinian wine. The only thing this bag lacks is an internal pocket or two to store those items small items that I like to leave in my large bag throughout my trip.
