Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I replaced my worn out Clarion GTX boots with Wasatch GTX boots [...] and those lasted less than 2 months before the soles started splitting. I decided to go with the Taku GTX when I took my Wasatch boots in to be replaced, just becuase they are lighter and seem more breathable. I like the boots so far, after a month or so. The only problem I have right now is the rubber toe cap on one of the boots is starting to become unattached from the leather - I'm debating whether I should keep them until they really fall apart [...], replacing them right away with the same thing, or ordering a pair of Clarion GTX boots online. For now, I'd recommend them, but if I keep the pair I have and the separation gets worse, I'll post an update (and probably lower my rating).

Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I ordered these boots based on past experience with the Vasque brand. This is the fourth pair I have owned, first pair of Taku's. I purchased these on 11/5 and have not had a chance to wear them hiking or anywhere other than work, which is a desk job. In several places the soles are already coming unglued from the leather. After less than two weeks of very light wear, I cannot see how these boots will ever hold up. Not to mention they are supposed to be waterproof. It is a shame, Vasque had always been my preferred brand of hiking/backpacking boots because they fit so well. For[$] they should hold up longer than 13 days. I will not buy another pair.

Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Boots are very comfortable, BUT, after less than 20 hours of wear in a desert enviorment in Afghanistan the rubber toe guard started coming apart from the leather boot, which allows water and dirt to get into the boot. I've seen this problem listed within other comments so these boots definitely have issues. Hopefully I won't have a problem returning them and getting a pair of boots that will hold up to a dusty, mainly dry, occasional wet environment.

I have backpacked in these boots with a 40 lb pack (wife doesn't carry....) and hiked many a mile in these boots. The light weight with good support is just great.
After years of struggling with heel blisters through several generations of Asolos and Zamberlains, these are tender on my feet even when I forgot my Smartwools and hiked in worn street socks. I have two pair!

Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
It is a bit early to be sure, but I am very impressed with the overall balance of performance, weight and comfort of this boot for fast day hiking and light backpacking. They whizz uphill quite well.
The full leather/Goretex construction gives me hope they will hold up better than nylon/Gortex boots from my past. I need a stiff sole for my high arches--these provide adequate support without the weight of my normal 4-lb full-leather backpacking boots. Performance on several steep dayhikes gives me good reason to expect they will perform well on ultralight backpacking trips.

I bought these boots a week before my first ever Grand Canyon backpacking trip. My boyfriend and I were both concerned about blisters and breaking the boots in before the trip, but I am glad to say the boots were fantastic. No blisters, no hot spots, just happy feet all the way down and all the way out. (I did change out the insoles from the factory ones.) The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because I haven't had them long enough to comment on their durability.

Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I used to have a pair of Lowa Renegade boots and generally liked them, but they wore out too quickly considering the price. So I was looking for a replacement boot for 5-10 mile day hikes. I tried on some Asolos and liked those, but found that they did not keep my ankle in place. My foot is a little on the narrow side so that is a common problem for me. Enter the Vasque Taku, which fit like a dream from the moment I set foot inside of it. They fit so well I decided to roll the dice and purchase them. I took them on a couple short hikes to break them in and then went on a pretty rigorous mountain hike. The good news is that they are very comfortable and offer very good traction (I live in a very wet environment but these boots had no problem gaining traction on slippery rocks). The bad news is that I experienced a good deal of heel-rubbing and ended up getting a decent blister on one heel. I attribute this to my not wearing the proper socks and not fully breaking in the boot more than a defect in the boot. Also I am a little worried whether this boot is going to hold up but that seems to be the case with most hiking boots these days. All in all I think it is a pretty good boot in the mid-price day hiking range. Comfortable, water proof, and with good traction.

I bought this boot for a water proof hiking boot. Problem is it looks so great I deciced to use it as going out dress boot. They run a little large. I normally wear a 10.5, but ended up settling on 10.0. I found a less expensive, lighter weight water proof boot for hiking...

Comments about Vasque Taku GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I originally bought a pair of Zamberlan boots from Rei online, but when they arrived I was shocked at how stiff and uncomfortable they were. I thought maybe they just needed time to break in.. But I took them my REI store, and their shoe specialist told me that shoes need to be comfortable from the get-go, and suggested these Vasque boots. Immediately, they were comforable, and required no break-in period.
I am a lady, but I have size 10.5 feet, and the women's version of this shoe only comes in 10 and 11. So I go the men's 9.5. Perfect!
