    • 2 side doors, each with their own vestibule, provide easy access without the need to crawl over your tentmate; dual storage space is a real plus
    • Fully adjustable, ceiling-level vents mitigate condensation by drawing cool air under the fly from the lower perimeter and exhausting warm, moist air

    • Insider floor provides the waterproofness of a bathtub floor and the taut pitch of a cut-in floor; tautness improves door-zipper operation and maximizes volume at end walls

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I was looking for a reasonably priced, light weight, three season tent and the Passage 2 stepped up to the task. I compared many brands and models and decided it met all my needs. I purchased it before there were any reviews but felt confident with the REI label. My Passage 2's maiden trek was a 3 day trip to the Mountaineers Route on Mt. Whitney last weekend in late April. The forecast said nothing about 36 hours of snow or the 50 MPH winds at Upper Boy Scout Lake so I guess I pushed the performance envelope of the Passage 2...anyway...

I am 6'3", 200 lbs and my buddy is 6'00", 190 lbs and we slept head-to-toe. Both nights it snowed and the second night we had strong winds with copious amounts of spindrift blowing across the col through our camp.

The Passage 2 has room aplenty for two fair sized guys and gear. We stayed warm and dry during 27 degree, snowy and windy conditions. I had beaucoup headroom and there is plenty of storage space with four corner mesh pockets and an attic.

We both stowed our 85 liter packs and boots in our respective vestibules that doubled as our kitchens keeping us out of the wind and snowfall. The two door/vestibule style is also convenient for those middle-of-the-night calls of nature that allows you to boot up in comfort and egress/ingress without having to crawl over your tent mate.

Setup is easy even in strong winds. The tent remained solid in 50 MPH winds, though the vestibule stake points on the rainfly loosened slightly during the gusty winds. This might have been due to the webbing being misrouted and hence, not staying as taut as I would have liked. I'll write this off as pilot error and I'll know my equipment mo' betta before pitching it next time in the mountains.

A moderate amount of snow spindrift found its way inside during the strongest winds, but again, this is a three season tent, so I can't complain. We did stay dry and pretty warm during 27 degree conditions, regardless. There was no hint of moisture on the bathtub under our gear and only minimal condensation on the inside of the rainfly. The condensation was probably due to the fact that I did not prop open the air vents on the top of the rainfly. I'll take a little condensation over excessive spindrift in my tent any day.

It's weight specs are comparable to more expensive models and the footprint/rainfly pitch option is a bonus for trips where weight is an issue. Overall, I would say the Passage 2 is an outstanding value and a solid three season tent. Once again, REI has hit a homerun!

First use March 23 011, High winds, hail , rain in S.W. Pa cold and nasty outside warm and dry inside, not noisy in the wind, took a minute to set stakes and guys right but , once done, impressively sturdy. My first purchase at REI, surely wont be my last, Am glad I didn't purchase a more expensive Marmot. Am looking forward to a long spring and summer with this hootch .couldn't be more pleased

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

We had two of these tents out with new Boy Scouts camping last weekend in the mountains. Large storms hit the area. Winds, Hale the size of golfballs, and terrential rain. The young Scouts said they were dry, no leaks, no condensation, and warmer inside than some other tents that costs twice as much. It was easy to set up, plenty of room for Scouts, and their gear. The Footprint was very good to have. Even with all the storms ( they had three waves of stuff), they said they had a very fun time camping.
Good job REI! With this tent, it is definate that someone did some homework.

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

this tent is great for the money spent. i took a two week hiking/camping trip through the national parks in arizona and utah: grand canyon, zion, bryce canyon, moab... this tent is easy to set up, lightweight, and has full fly coverage. my only complaint about this tent is that the upper mesh part can't be closed up. when there are high winds blowing dirt around, dirt WILL get in your tent. even with the fly on, the winds will carry the dirt under the fly, billow it up and swirl all the dirt to the top of the fly, which means down the inside of the tent. which means over all your stuff. if you don't mind, then you'll love this tent. if you hate having to shake out/sweep every day, this one isn't for you.

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I bought this tent in mid Feb 2011. I have used it about every weekend since then (it is end of March now). I have put this tent through 18 degree and snow to a heavy downpour. I've been taking it backpacking in backcountry terrain. It has always kept water out. I've never had any leaks. However, like any waterproof fabric, once it gets saturated, it will get clammy from the interior and your clothes with suck moisture from the exterior.

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I bought this tent for a camping/road trip down Highway 101 with my girlfriend. The set up is extremely easy and take-down/storage is simple as well.

It rained the first a few nights, and also every night it went below the dew point (40 degrees usually). I never had to worry about the tent handling that much moisture. Properly staked out, the rainfly held up, no problem.

I'm 6'0" 180lbs and my g/f is considerably less. It's no castle, to say the least, but it's roomy enough for the both of us, our stuff, and a full size air mattress. The dual vestibules gave us our own "cubbyholes" for our shoes and gear.

I very much enjoyed this tent and I'm excited to use it on my upcoming backpacking trips. A great tent for a great price!

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I bought this tent because I was looking for a lightweight backpacking tent so I did not have to lend my son my expensive Terra Nova tent for Scout camps, for these reason price was key. I got it whilst it was on sale so a really good price.

After using it myself recently I was very impressed and actually think it is better than the Half Dome for the following reasons.

Easier to Pitch - just two poles, no hubs or cross pole

Less mesh on the inner tent - means it does not fill up with dust in dry conditions and holds more heat for early and late season camping whilst still remaining cool in summer

Bigger - this sits between the Half Dome and the plus version. Important for me being well over 6ft

If you can get this in a sale then it is one of the best tent bargins out there.

As with most lightweight tents I would recommend buying the footprint and some better stakes like MSR Ground Hogs, you only need six so it's a cheap upgrade.

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I'm very impressed with the design of the Passage 2 which is much like other more expensive two door tents so not sure what the difference is. The Passage has more room than the Half Dome and is a tad lighter even. The down to the ground fly keeps the tent warm yet ventilates well with the column of netting at both ends. The fly design is totally worth it over the less expensive Dome 2 tent. For night sky viewing you can zip fly partway down from top too.

The vestibule created by the fly is just right for stowing bags and boots. The white interior makes the tent bright inside and offers some privacy compared to the tents with more netting. Lots of loops inside from which to hang things. The green fly is a pleasant color that blends into the landscape. You'll need two more tent pegs to stake out the fly if you want to use the guy lines to peg it down at the ends.

I got the footprint too, to try it as a superlite summer tent. I'm totally in love with this tent. It is half the weight of my much loved three person Equinox tent from the 80s, that I've used up to now, yet seems almost as roomy for two people.

MAJOR rain BIG wind, Still warm and dry, almost 30 days out and tent is by far the best I,ve owned. 27 consecutive sets and not a glitch, replaced stakes , of course, Why dont manufacturers give ya decent stakes?

Comments about REI Passage 2 Tent:

I was so bummed when they redesigned this tent and did away with it - I had borrowed my buddies and was so impressed I was going to buy my own. But the new design was complicated and I didn't like it. So I continued to borrow my buddies.

I set this tent up so quickly in a hail storm and it handled the storm so well - I was very impressed! Thanks REI, I now have one of these awsome tents of my own!
