Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
I bought this bag for the comfort, padding and lumbar support. I took it for a short weekend trip that was a total of 9 miles RT and it did not disappoint me in fit or stability. Since I was solo at the last minute, I carried all the gear (2p tent, sbag, spad, cooking, etc.) and was carrying at full capacity (~40# total). Short of a little sensitivity for hip belt break-in, I never felt a thing. Pros/Cons included a lack of side pockets: pro if you're an over-packer; con if you like to have lots of little stuff easily accessible, which I do. Most of it was shoved into the hood pocket, with little problem. Side pockets are cinchable around large items and Nalgene bottles are easily anchored by compression straps that run along the side. The hip pocket was large enough for my point and shoot camera IN it's case, so I was really happy there.
The fully exposed zippers on the front of bag give it a duffle bag accessibility which is nice, but they also have a "waterproofing" strip running along them which makes it difficult to zip/unzip. This may require a break-in period like the hip belt which I just have not reached yet. The sleeping bag 'compartment' is really easy to access, however, my 0 deg bag required not only a compression sack (not unusual) as well as the removal of the separation flap in order to fit in the compartment. There was still some space left over which I just filled by stuffing my other items around it. Again, not unusual, but if you're a compartment packer, that's not gonna happen unless you're carrying a summer bag.
Important to any pack purchase is taking the time to "try it on" in the store, weighted and adjusted as needed to get a good idea of how it's going to feel. Also, standing there looking at the wall doesn't help you much. Take a stroll through the store wearing the pack for 30 mins or so to get a REALLY good idea how it's gonna work. I wanted an Osprey really badly, but no matter how much I wanted it to work, the fit just was never quite right...I only knew this because I took the time to fit properly and I am SO glad I did. A friend on the trip didn't and was miserable with the limited adjustability with the REI FLASH 60 for this reason.
Overall, the pack is great. I thought about returning it for the zipper/pocket thing, but I think I'll wait until after my trip next month to finalize my decision.

Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
Really wanted to like this pack. It was a little smaller than what I wanted, but seemed to have lots of pockets and smart design. One thing I really like about some newer packs is the front zip allowing the pack to be opened like a suitcase for easy access. From the video and description this pack looked like it had that function. It absolutely does not. What a bizarre design. It has two zippers in the front around the front pocket, but they don't zip all the way around, just one side and then the other. Seems like wasted weight with two zippers that have such annoying function. If you have something bulky in the middle of your pack you're not going to be able to squeeze it through these openings especially if your pack is filled tightly. You'll have to unload from the top. Returned this in favor of the cheaper but more functional Venus pack. Trying it out for the next trip.

Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
This is my very first backpacking pack and I love it. I bought this pack before leaving for the Peace Corps after comparing between backpacking packs and travel packs. I opted for the backpacking pack because the price was the same, but it is multi use. I hope to go backpacking in the future. Thus far I have used it for travel and it has held up well. I can put lots of stuff in it and it is very comfortable once I took the time to adjust it properly. I have only two complaints. 1.) my water bottle tends to fall out of the pocket no matter how tight i put it. 2.) I wish the zippers along the side of the pack were a bit longer so can access my stuff easier.

Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
I'm very small (5'2" 95 lbs) so my options for packs are limited. It came down to this pack or the Deuter ACT Lite. I went with the Deuter because, ultimately, it fit better. However, this pack really has it all, in my opinion: multiple pockets, waterproof zippers, large capacity. It's priced very competitively. I'd recommend it to anyone who feels comfortable in it. If REI ever makes a smaller version, I'll be interested. It's also worth noting that the color is less red in person, but more orange. I would love to see this in green!

Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
I purchased a new pack before our trip to Colorado as my other one was a little heavier. We adjusted it at REI but forgot to go back after a lost several pounds before the trip. I had to adjust several times along the trail. The pack was very comfortable when it was adjusted right. The compartments to the main area is very handy and came in handy during the trip. My husband purchased the men's Crest Trail and absolutely loved it as well. The downside I saw was not enough compartments like my previous back but I was able to find a spot for all my equipment for the trip with no problems.

Comments about REI Crestrail 65 Pack - Women's:
This is my very first pack. I bought this before joining the Peace Corps. I decided to go with a legitimate backpacking pack instead of a travel pack because the prices were similar and I wanted something that could be multipurpose. I really want to get into backpacking in the future and the price of this pack is good enough reason for me. This pack has held up well on my travels. I have found it very comfortable once I took the time to adjust it properly. And I have been able to stuff it full. I only have two complaints. 1.) Water bottle pockets are a bit loose even when tightened. If I bend over, my bottle falls out. 2.) Zippers on the side of the pack to access the main compartment are a little short, making it difficult to access some of my stuff.
