Comments about REI Grand Tour 80 Travel Pack - Women's:
I used this backpack for a month- long trip through India. The pack survived the many planes, hikes, overnight trains, hotels, etc. Definitely the best travel purchase... outside of the actual plane ticket.

Comments about REI Grand Tour 80 Travel Pack - Women's:
Took this backpack on a trip to NZ from SoCal. The rainfly makes it very easy to throw under the plane without worrying about hanging straps. Most of the trip was between car and hostel. I had borrowed a set of Rick Steves Packing Cubes, and they are a great match - very quick to find things during the day in the trunk, during the evening at the hostel and quick to pack up and go in the morning. I took it on one long hike on the Tongariro Crossing, which has mountains and scree. The pack was comfortable, fit well, and was tight to the body so didn't feel like it was pulling me around the mountain. The breathability isn't the best so my back was sweaty, but it wasn't horrible.

Comments about REI Grand Tour 80 Travel Pack - Women's:
I used this bag on a 7 week backpacking tour of Europe. For the most part it worked out very well. I had been concerned about it being to heavy. But with rearranging, the weight could for the most part be evenly distributed. It held up very well, with no rips or tears.
I bought this bag online after it was recommended by an REI employee. I then went into another store to have it fitted and was told it was too big for me. The bag didn't fit perfectly but it did work for what I needed it to. If you are on the smaller side, I would suggest doing more research and asking several consulatants for help instead of just one.
The day pack was the only part of this bag that I didn't really like. It was very uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time as it's very close to the neck. It also doesn't have a waist strap.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase and with the quality. I will be using this backpack for a long time to come.

Comments about REI Grand Tour 80 Travel Pack - Women's:
I bought this to take on a 2week caribbean vacation and I have never regretted getting it! It's easy to adjust all the straps, pretty compact, and was just big enough for me (though i travel light).
If I had more than 3 outfits worth, big beach towel, extra pair of shoes, and the normal toiletries, I wouldn't have had enough room for everything.
The materials are tough and the zippers are solid. The zipper actually goes almost all the way from the top to the bottom of the pack on each side so I didn't have to empty the pack to find things. The straps on the bottom are long enough for a Thermarest but not too much bigger.
The only negative was that sing the strap connecting the shoulder straps caused them to cut into the sides of my chest. Bigger busted women will feel a slight discomfort when carrying a good amount of weight, but it never chaffed or cut into my skin. But I can deal with the annoying feeling of the chest strap because I like the bag so much.
All in all I loved this pack when I was living out of it. And I take it even when I go on short weekend trips now because of how comfortable it is. I don't own a car and I live in a city so I even take this bag to the grocery store and carry everything home...I love it!

Got the backpack for a round-the-world trip. It is pretty comfortable and lightweight as long as you know what to pack. The color is nice and I could spot the thing easily in airports. The padding and support for the back and waist are great. Went on a 3 week pre-trip but found the mesh on the waist padding already coming off after two weeks, but it didn't affect backpack function. Also packed a first aid kit at the bottom of the backpack and it wore down the fabric. The detachable day-pack is very awesome. A hole opened up when the shoulder straps of the day-pack connect, though. The backpack survived the pre-trip, but I did not expect it to wear down so fast from being check-in luggage.

I have another backpack but I always get so frustrated with it because I have to top load everything and if I accidentally pack my camera on the bottom and want my camera I have to take EVERYTHING out. I've been searching all over to find a bag that opens like a suitcase instead of a rucksack. HERE IT IS!
I'm taking a trip to England and Ireland to study folk dance and music. I'm hopping from host family to host family so I'm not doing any serious backpacking so this is perfect for traveling and keeping everything together.
Also if you don't pack it all of the way it can be a carry on item! Besides you should leave some room for food and gifts!
