Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
I love this bag and use it for my carry on when I don't want to check my luggage. By technical specifications it is 2'' over the limit for carry on baggage on most airlines. But I haven't had any problems as of yet. It fits just fine in the smaller overhead compartments on some of the short flights I've taken. It's a very simple backpack style. I like that the zippers allow mini locks to be attached to them. Also the straps help to tighten the bag up even more and get it to a smaller size. My favorite feature is the rain cover that comes with it. It also doubles as a way to enclose the straps so it turns into a duffel bag if you decide to check your luggage. I was able to use this for a week long trip and it worked very well for me. I've already recommended this bag to friends!

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
When I travel (fly) I usually use my 80L hiking pack for my clothes. I'll check that bag at the front desk. The nice thing about this pack is when I'm wear the 80L I can covert this pack to a duffle bag with handles.
Easy access to items inside that pack is great, making it really easy to pack. If you want a pack to travel and hike with, don't look any further.

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
Such a bummer- thought I'd found my perfect RTW pack. Fantastic, simple main compartment with huge access! not too many goofy straps hanging off all over the place! favorite color (black)! decent suspension, but also zipaway!
But then I tried it without my jacket on. Scratchy scratchy shoulder straps and somehow two squarish edges on the back padding (between shoulder blades and across sacrum) So close, but yet, no.

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
Traveled 3 weeks in the UK with this backpack. It held just enough clothing and necessities. Getting on and off trains was easy. It is a good size to stow in narrow overheads. First time backpacker and now a true believer!

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
I'm using this primarily for day to day books, laptop, etc. But I wanted something capable of holding more for longer weekend trips like camping. So far it's great. It's rather large, but so I am, so it works well for a normal backpack.

bought this pack to use for weekend motorcycle trips. has a rainfly (which i haven't had to use yet), perfect size. opens up like a duffle for easy packing.
also took it on a 5 day trip to cozumel and it worked wonders for the majority of my things, minus snorkel gear.

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
4 months in SE Asia - perfect size; keeping the weight down to carry on compliance.
ONLY, only issue is:
1) the top compartment. A bit too small for the Lonely Planet / travel guide book, useless strap (with clasp) inside, AND it colapses inside the bag - making the inside top part hard(er) to access (maybe if it was a bit stiffer, or could hold it's own form).
2) needs 2 outside straps (on the exterior top part) to hang footwear, or hang a daypack onto it.
Those outside 2 snaps are not needed (in terms of function); although it keeps the pack nicely snug tight.
All in all, GREAT pack for it's size. It just needs some design adjustments, and I agree - non scratch straps.

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
This is the best bag I have ever owned for casual traveling. It allows hands free travel without your clothes coming out a wrinkled mess. There's plenty of room you could travel as long as you want.
The only fault with this bag is the front clasps are weakly anchored. They both broke on my first leg of a trip from Northern California to Nashville. Instead of taking it back I just sewed the upper straps to the side bag loops, that allowed it to work the same, but much stronger.
Note: I would only recommend this bag if you are willing to fix the bag when the front clasps break. With the fix I give it 5/5 instead 4/5.
PS: My wife wants a modified one, but there is only one size currently and is too long for her.

Comments about REI Vagabond Tour 40 Travel Pack:
I bought this bag because I thought it was going to be perfect for Air Travel. Which it is, minus the defective buckles. My first trip with it, I was pulling the bag out of the overhead compartment and the buckle snagged on something and broke, I wasn't wrenching on it or anything. I just felt a slight snag and then pop! The rest of the bag is great, but I will be returning this bag for a replacement when I return home. For the price it, this should not have happened. I think the buckles should be re-engineered as to provide a little more ruggedness than what it currently has.
