There is nothing worse that making a pot of coffee on a backpacking trip and having everyone get "two fingers" worth of coffee. That's because all coffee makers (plunger, drip, & percolators) in the backpacking world are for like two casual coffee drinkers. There is nothing casual about the way I drink coffee. So instead of being miserable with a big coffee mug a quarter of the way full, I find this little gem at REI. Wow. Mentally, I need the act of drinking coffee as well as filling my mug up multiple times to satiate my cravings. This served both. And because it is so small and sexy, a little boiling water tossed in, warms it up so the coffee stays hot. Yay. I heart this mug. Also, try to look cool drinking anejo out of anything else besides this at the campfire. Not gonna happen.

On our last family camping trip we fell in love with these things (see my shared pictures). They fit perfectly in your hand and you will naturally pound whatever beverage is contained inside (so be careful)! If you don't have one, drop what you're doing, and go buy one now!

My cups arrived today, so I haven't used them yet. Therefore, I can't comment on performance. I usually read reviews before making online purchases and was aware that these cups were on the small side. They were smaller than I thought - they are not much larger than a yogurt container. The design is very clean & simple, they seem to be well-made & the size would be perfect for tight packing.

Another thing to note is that "Sharkskin" is a dark green color, not a dark gray.

I spotted this tumbler while buying camping gear the other day for my family. It fits perfectly in my hand and does a pretty decent job of keeping fluids hot/cold without being unwieldy. Plus it's shiny and cool. Buying camping gear is already a lot of fun....finding a useful, compact, and sweet-looking product like this makes it more fun. I'm planning on buying two more to have in the house so I don't have to go digging in our camping box when I want to use it.

The only drawback might be its size. If you're downing a lot of liquids, you're going stay busy filling this up.

Perfect for my daily cup of tea. I use loose green tea leaves. The double wall keeps the drink hot but the outside stays cool. The lid fits snuggly, it is comfortable in the hand and I like the minimalist design without a handle. Small enough to take with you anywhere. I use this for my daily routine, but I would consider bringing it on a camping/backpacking trip. It only holds 6 oz, which is perfect for tea or espresso, but too small if you drink lots of coffee.

I purchased this on a whim during a recent trip to REI.

What I really like about this cup is its insulated ability - no lip burning here.

Its pretty light in weight too. I measured it at 3 1/2 ounces for the body, 3/8 ounces for the lid for a total weight of 3 7/8 ounces. While I'm camping off the back of my BMW R1150 GS, weight is still sort of important. If I was backpacking, I might be looking for a lighter alternative or consider leaving the lid at home.

On the road, I'll use this with those Starbucks Via instant coffee packs. Made in this small container, its going to be more like instant expresso, but I'm ok with that. I think I'll be able to store the coffee packs inside the cup when I'm not using it to drink from. Not sure about that. Ok, now that I measure it, I'm pretty sure they won't fit. The cup is only 2 7/8 inches deep (on the inside) and the lid fits a full 1/2 into the cup, so I doubt they'll fit, without molesting the packets.

A 5 star rated cup would be taller to hold slightly more and those un-opened packets of coffee as well.

But this is still a good cup!

It seems a tad small at first but I've come to see it as an ideal compromise between use and portability. The double-wall is comfortable and effective. The top could have better spill protection. Other than that, it's a cup -- what else can one praise? I carry it with me daily.

I'll probably take this cup hiking, but I bought it to keep my coffee hot at home. Ironically, doppio--"double" in Italian--is perfect for a single-shot cappuccino (6 oz). I preheat the cup with some boiling water and my drink stays hot even if I get distracted.

Simple lines look good and clean easily. Sharkskin is the color of brushed stainless with a tint of sage green.

If every other insulated cup is starting to look like a Big Gulp to you, consider this little guy.
