Comments about Kelty Shadehouse - Large:
I have three of the 2010 large versions. I used two of them last weekend. It rained hard while tent camping. They really made the difference between having a great time with the family or just getting through the storm. They pack up small and light for the amout of coverage you get from the large model. When guyed out it is quite stable. I really like how you can configure the setup by adjusting the corner pole placement. This allows you to direct where much of the rain drains or to better block the sun or to adjust the height. I have also been able to set this up in tight camground spaces because of this flexability. The materials appear very sturdy. Depending on how you have placed the corners, the side panels or walls may have some gaps near the corners. This has never been something that has botherd me though. The set up can be done by one person but is much easier with two people. During set up, there is a considerable amount of tention on the structure and the position has to be just right before is snaps into shape. This can be a little frustrating the first few times you set it up. I can do it now very quickly by myself with no problems. I think the key is just trusting it will spring into shape and using enough force while you pull the corner fabric to engage the poles in the gromets.
Im not sure of the level of spf sunprotection. I think its been a fine shade structure but i use it mostly for cover from the rain while car camping.
Its my favorite shade structure to date. I bought two more this summer because of how well i liked using it last year and sometimes wishing I had another to protect a different area of camp.

Comments about Kelty Shadehouse - Large:
I purchased this shadehouse several months back and found it difficult and time-consuming to set up and take down, though it is manageable if you don't need to do it a lot. Walking in and around it though was annoying with the low ceiling and two of the openings also being low; an average size adult will be ducking a lot.
I used it once camping out in cool weather with rain and snow showers and found it to be adequate for protecting us from passing downpours. It is also lightweight and compact compared to other pop up shelters which is a plus.
However, I primarily bought this shadehouse for sun protection while camping but was disappointed with it's performance. It seems to trap heat under the canopy, possibly because of how low it is and because the tarp is somewhat translucent letting heat through. On a trip to Joshua Tree we had a pop up canopy set up right next to the Kelty shadehouse and found it to be quite a bit warmer under the Kelty. I found myself using the other canopy for sun protection.
The bottom line is that if you want something for protection during cool, inclement, and windy conditions you may want to consider this shelter. For sun protection I strongly recommend getting another canopy.

Comments about Kelty Shadehouse - Large:
Have a Kelty tent- it sets up in a snap - thought this would be the same. Sun shade did not set up at all! When you attempt to place poles into plastic "Y"s, it seemed as though the fabric of the shelter was about to tear. Went online to see if there was an instructional video - there wasn't. Frankly, these things should be pretty intuitive. You need a degree in engineering! Skip this one.

Comments about Kelty Shadehouse - Large:
I have for years been searching for the ideal beach shelter. In past years I have used Coleman products but it seems that after every season I've had to buy a new one because they don't weather the weather, so to speak. And then every year they change design or manufacturers, the quality is not always good, and the service has been bad. Now this year, they've gone exclusively to the "quick tent" collapsable style which suffer overall in beach use.
However, I believe I have found the *PERFECT* beach shelter in the Kelty *Large* Shadehouse. It's so easy to set up, easy to move when the tide changes, and easy to secure.
Take from somebody who obsesses over shade on the beach...this is the best beach shade for a group of 3-4 people that exists on the market! BUY IT!!
My only complaint is that it's not US made.
