The fragile, plastic zipper on this vest warranted an immediate return, especially given the history of zipper-related customer complaints for other REI products. The vest is very thin (not a bad thing), so I can see why a low-profile zipper was selected, but I would prefer greater durability.

SIZE NOTE: The vest is fine as sized. However, if you prefer a more form-fitting garment you could benefit by choosing a size smaller than the sizing guide would suggest. I wear vests--especially a lightweight vest like this one--pretty close to the body and often under other layers, where a smaller fit is advantageous.

Comments about REI Endeavor Vest - Men's:

In the winter, I am most comfortable indoors in a t-shirt (generally poly or similar) and vest. I find fleece and down vests to be too warm. This vest has just the right warmth for me. I need something that looks outdoorsy but professional at my business, and this one does it. I am trim but tall, so this vest in medium fits perfectly, without being too short. As a benefit, it works well under a coat when I am out walking the dog.

The con for this vest, and the reason I subtracted one star, is the pockets. If you put anything in them, it ruins the trim look. The vest material pushes the item against my chest, becoming uncomfortable after awhile. I don't know how you could get both a snug fit and pocket room, so I just treat this vest like it has no pockets.

I wear this as light layer for hiking, biking and golf. I also wear it over a shirt when out for a casual dinner. I often wear it under a suit coat at work. Has great crisp styling and very thin so it goes well under everything from suit jackets to fleece and wind foil jackets. Breathes well. I usually run hot so I wasn't looking for a heavy layer and this just fit the bill. I have worn it at least 2 or 3 days a week since September and it still looks great.

Light weight shield from the wind, extremely light weight. Provides adequate warmth but with a vest this light, you don't expect exceptional warmth. Great for brisk northern summer nights.

Very simple styling, light, thin soft shell. Appears well made. It doesn't provide much if any warmth, but if you want something that will cut the wind and looks stylish, this does the trick.
