Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
In the store I was impressed by the stretchy fabric. I am used to cycling in thermal tights and have started to use them for cold weather hikes too. I have come to really appreciate the stretch of the fabric. These pants have a very similar feel to them that I find very comfortable. After reading other reviews, I was a little concerned about chaffing. Interestingly I tried on two pairs in the store (one of each color). On pair seemed to rub my leg a little at the zipper line, the other did not at all. I bought the second pair. After 25 miles of backpacking over 3 days there was not even a hint of chaffing.
I love these pants. They don't have big cargo pockets which I never use, but do have several very nice zippered pockets that fit my cell phone, keys, map and pen and I never felt them while hiking. And the stretchy comfort was remarkable! Keep in mind that these pants are heavy and somewhat warm with the legs on, though with the legs off, the shorts did not feel any warmer than other shorts I have. And for you ultralight folks... my mediums weighed in at 15.6 ounces. So there are far lighter pants out there, but I'm still willing to bring these along for the comfort factor. I think they will be on my body and not in my pack most of the time anyway.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I have a number of different kinds of convertible pants, because I find them very functional. These pants are extremely comfortable, especially because of the stretch material. Since I am of a slim build without a full derriere, I especially appreciate the slim fit. They are not for heftier built men. The construction of the pants is very nice. The only fault I find is the lack of a cargo pocket on the left. There is only one on the right. I seem to fill up whatever pocket space I have. All in all, these are wonderful pants.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I was looking for pants that could handle whatever I encounter on the trail. These are an investment but totally worth it so far. They've been plenty warm in the mid-30's. They repel water in a light rain or going through brush. They look great, feel soft, and the construction looks up to the task.
In a heavy rain, these did soak through, but still provided insulation and then dried out 20-30 minutes after it let up.
Unless I'm planning on being in 20 degree temperature or consistently heavy rains, these are the only pants I'll bring.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I really like the fit of these pants. They are more relaxed than some of the other soft shell style pants I have tried on. They are comfortable and well made. The pockets are sturdy and well placed.
The only real negative for me is the shorts. I barely ever zip off the legs to wear the shorts, but they are very short. I know its a personal preference, but shorts that hit above the knee are just too short for me. Keep this mind if you plan to wear these as shorts often.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
These pants are great! The feel and fit are perfect for casual wear and going afield. I recently went on an extended hike in Central Florida...in the rain. While the exterior of the pants seemed to shed most of the drizzle, the pants never clinged, and had enough give to stay in place as we trudged at times through damp knee high "Cutthroat Grass". I was amazed at how the stayed in place around my ankles, keeping me safe from the threat of tick infestation. Bottom line: I'm getting another pair.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I have multiple pairs of the Sahara convertible pants, but any moisture whether from light rain or walking through dew covered plants would soak through right away. These pants were great in that they kept that moisture out, but were still relatively cool, especially via opening the zippers to allow air into the back of the knees. I wasn't sure if they would be worth the purchase for a 2 week backpacking trip, but was very glad I pulled the trigger, and will be sure to use them again if there's any chance of rain.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
We spent a week in the back country of Haines Alaska at Chilkat Lake, there is no running water or electricity at our cabin. I wore these pants for a week straight and they performed beautifully. We fished, hiked, demolished part of our cabin, shot firearms and shot a lot of photography in remote areas. These are the best pants I've ever worn, they keep you warm when it's cold and cool when it's warm! I especially like the reinforcements at the inner cuff at the ankle, the seam sealed zippers and the side zippers that start at the ankle and end at the knee, it works great to ventilate your legs when it gets warm. Unfortunately while working on the cabin and removing sheets of tin roofing, I got a lot of small snags in the fabric on the front of the leg area while working with the sharp edges. I'm online as I write this ordering two more pairs!!! I would highly recommend these to anyone!

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
These are the best pair of pants I have ever had. They are a bit spendy, but worth every penny. The stretchyness is amazing. Solid construction with welded zippers. Windproof. Very very water resistant. These were the only pair of pants I brought when I went hiking in the Grand Canyon. Put the legs on and they're great for the cold nights, take them off and you're set for the hot day. No chaffing either. They can block the ND winds, and that's saying something. I'm taking them hiking on some 14ers in CO next week. After that I'm going to work as a canoe guide up in the Atikaki in Manitoba. We'll see how they hold up.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
Because I base almost all of my purchases on reviews, I thought I'd return the favor and recommend a great pair of pants.
These pants are perfect for backpacking and hiking in a variety of climates. I have been warm in these pants down to 30 degrees and they are windproof to about 30mph (However, on top of Wheeler, I did feel some of the howling wind penetrate the zipper areas). I was warm in these pants and midweight wool thermals while Snowshoeing in a windy 15 degrees. I expected those features; I did not expect the pants to be waterproof. I went on a hike after an early-October snowstorm that melted throughout the day leaving deep puddles. In fact, on the return hike, the trail had become a stream. These pants shed water: they never soaked through and even kept water out of my boots like gaiters would. The pants are very comfortable and sleek. I am 6'3", 215 and the large/32 inseam fits perfectly. The zippers have not chafed me as other reviewers have indicated. Indeed, I would recommend the convertibles because these pants can get a bit warm when the weather is fair (50+). Pockets do not hold a lot, but who cares. I have never enjoyed hiking with a ton of gear jangling around in giant cargo pockets--that's what backpacks are for. The material is robust, and has not yet pilled. The perfect buy for serious backpackers in the Mountain West.

Comments about REI Endeavor Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
Caveat: Unclear if I had a defective product.
On second use, seat ripped through in 3 places while scrambling. This is a more of a mountaineering pant than lightweight nylon-only convertible pant counterparts. But not as robust as 2004 REI Mistral polyester pants, which lasted me years of backcountry scrambling. Not as strong as Marmot pant which I had customized into convertible pants.
Bit of a shame, I like to use this type of pant as my only mountain pant for ultra-light climbing/backpacking.
