Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
After researching packs for a solid month, I got this for my 13year old Boy Scout Son. It fit him perfectly, and the gross adjustment is very quick and easy, and there are a sundry of other adjustment options to the suspension to ensure ultimate comfort on the trail. The pack is lightweight, durable, well designed and accepts 1,2, or 3L platypus or camelback hydration packs. We chose the 2L platypus, and it works great. There are a host of areas on the pack for clipping on doodads, including a snack compartment on the hipbelt. One really awesome feature is the entire top can quickly disconnect to form a comfortable fanny pack for short trips away from basecamp. Finally, I really wanted something with the polyweb 'cage' on the outside to throw a wet towel or swimsuit in to dry along the way -- this pack had it. The only pack that came close to this one on features was over $400. This pack does not include a rain jacket, however I was able to find an excellent universal one [...] Overall this pack rocks -- and with the quick rip/stick adjustment, should carry him all the way to EAGLE.
Service and delivery comments:
We actually drove to Manassas from Richmond, VA (about 2 hours) to get this at the store. The guy who helped was EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and obviously knew what he was talking about. He spent alot of time with my son, making adjustments, and getting the right fit. He also loaded him down with appropriate weight, and had him 'hike' around the store, while we located a Platypus Hoser (another must have with this pack).

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
I got this pack for my son who just started in Boy Scouts, his first outing it was great, he loved the pack and was able to carry it well with all he needed. Does not have any extra pockets but I am teaching him not to carry the house with him. So if you are thinking of a nice interal pack get this one.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
I purchased this for my son to use on our 10 night Philmont trek. We had zero problems and he was able to store a 3 liter bladder with no problem. The outside straps worked great for holding his sleeping pad and tent fly. I plan on buying another one for my son this year.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
My son and I went to Philmont in New Mexico this summer and 2 weeks before we left, he grew out of his old backpack. We went to try out new ones and we fell in love with this for a couple of reasons: it has lots of storage, it is designed for teenagers with growing waists, you could add a reservoir like the Camelbak Unbottle, and you don't need straps for adding things to the bottom. One thing that has happened on the trail is that the hipbelt loosens every hour or so. You really have to pull the straps and possibly tie them so they stay taut. Great backpack overall.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
I bought this for my son who loves to camp. He always uses it when we go for overnighters to week trips. When he and his friends camp out in the 10 acres is friend owns he uses it to carry the tent and sleeping pad on the outside, and sleeping bag, cookwear, sleeping bag, personal affects, and much more on the inside. This pack, with a floating lid, has many extirior straps to lash things down like a rain coat too a sleeping pad to a pair of boots, one on either side. the adjustable shoulder straps can be adjusted to different torso heights, the removable stays are great for overnighters. this pack is so durable that it is basically kid proof. Buy this pack!!

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
I bought this pack for my two boys (11 & 13) for our trip to the Wind River range last July. This pack is an excellent choice and provided the room, comfort and function needed for a 5 day high adventure trip. The only word of caution I will offer is that I felt my 11 year-old boy was on the low end of where you would want to be size-wise with this pack. I wouldn't get this pack for someone under the age of 12 unless their shoulders/chest are larger than average. Again, this is an outstanding pack and I am really glad I have it.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
My 12 year-old's first backpack for Boy Scouts. He's used it for a 7-day cabin trip to Canada and his first backpacking trip on the AT this weekend. In fact he uses it for all his scouting outings, even car camping. It's been great for having 1 complete unit for all his gear.
It's very comfortable for him and highly adjustable. The REI salesperson gave him a great fit and demo'd the highly adjustable features.
I like that it has 2 external pockets that will fit a 1 Liter bottle. It would be nice if they were a bit lower as they are a bit hard for him to reach. However, having the pouch for a bladder is great. While he hasn't used it yet, his Camelbak bladder fits it well.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
This is by far the best pack I have ever owned. I stopped growing when I was 11 so I don't need to bother with the adjustment features on this pack, but it is great for those that do. Most kids products are not made with the same quality as adult sized products but this pack is an exception. I took it out for an 8 mile test hike and was completely sold.
I love the little storage compartments on the sides and on the hip straps, the separate sleeping bag compartment frees up space for other things inside the main compartment, and the bungee cords on the outside are great for hanging things to dry as you hike.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
This pack is a great fit for my son. He borrowed a youth pack from the troop on the first trip and it just didn't fit him right. He packed too much (like a rookie!) and had all of the weight on his shoulders from the poor fitting (very expensive) pack. We looked everywhere and tried on several packs before he settled on this one. It was the BEST fit for narrow hips. (He wears a 12 slim jeans.) The waist cinches tighter than any of the other packs available at REI in the "small" adult size. The sales clerk at REI called this a "JR pack" not a kids pack.
He had a great time on a recent trip as the weight from this pack rested just right on his hips. The pack held everything just fine with room to spare. This is really a full size pack that he can grow into and continue to adjust.
We are VERY happy with this purchase and have recommended this pack to other young scouts.

Comments about REI Passage 65 Pack - Youth:
I bought this pack for my 11 y/o son who is starting his first year in Boy Scouts. He has used it on two camping trips, one a hike in camp, the other a car camp. He has been able to pack appropriately for both events with out taking unnecessary gear which has been a plus over his Cub Scout days. This pack is teaching him how to ensure only the necessary gear is taken.
His kie in camp was 3 miles in. While not a long hike, for a beginner, he quickly adapted his pack to a comfortable position and ensured proper weight distribution. This pack gave him greater flexibility than most of the other cheaper packs used by other boys in his troop. At the end of the hike, he was still ready to go when others were complaining of tired and sore bodies.
