The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Sprig 12 Pack - Kids':
My three year old was needing something that he could take a change of clothes and lunch to pre-school, small toys to his grandparents' and rain gear/warm gear/change of clothes when we go on the trail. We looked at some larger packs at REI and other stores, but could not find anything that fit him properly. Enter the REI Sprig 12. When adjusted properly, the pack fits him almost as well as I would like one to fit myself. The split back pad keeps the pack where it belongs, and with the sternum strap employed, he has walked a couple of lengthy trails without complaining about it not being comfortable. The belt straps are non-padded webbing, and rather lengthy. As we didn't really see them transferring the weight to his hips comfortably, we went ahead an removed them. The 12L main body, 2 side pockets and shock cord front allow him to carry what he needs wherever he goes, and the hydration compatibility and integrated emergency whistle are just icing on the cake. All in all, this is a great little pack. Just be prepared to have the "the whistle is only for when you are in trouble and need help" talk and break in period.

I got this for my 3 1/2 year old so he had a back pack like Dad's. He loved it. He uses it for school and if fit way better tnan anything you can buy in the store and is much more comfortable (at least from my perspective). We went for our first hike together. he was able to pack his camera, hat, blanket (which goes everywhere) and a few other necessities. It is a great product, perfect for the up and coming backpacker.

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter to use as a school pack. It is not nearly wide enough to fit a school folder. it would make a nice hydration pack that your 3 year old could bring along on a day hike. it is well built, but the age range listed is not right, do not get for a child over 5 years old. This pack is of little use to a 8 year old.

Very well made: the quality of a good adult pack, sized for small people.
BUT...it's too small to carry lunch plus snack plus folder for my kindergartener. same design with more cubic capacity (esp expansion to allow for insulated lunch sacks) would make this a terrific pack for preschoolers/young elementary schoolers. as it is, we are sadly returning to find a larger version.

I bought this for my 3.5 year old (42" tall) after having him try on the alternatives at REI. The Camelbak Scout was too long (hit his bumm), and while the Northface Sprout fit perfectly, it also was too tiny and simple to be of much use for long. This one he'll get a few years of wear out of before it becomes a hand-me-down. I got a Camelbak 50 ml water reservoir to go with it, and that worked fine. He loves being able to drink water just like Mommy and Daddy on hikes. Note there's a bit of scratchy thread at the nape of the neck (we tried a couple), but I figured I could cover it with a bit of fleece if he keeps complaining.

My almost-six-year-old son uses this pack for hiking, and it is a definite upgrade from his last one- it's great to find a small child's pack that is designed to be age appropriate. Small enough that he can't fill it too heavy, but big enough to store his own gear and even the treasures he finds on the trail, this pack is sturdy and easy to get in and out of too.

This pack is great for our (big) 3-year old. It needs more pockets. It only has one internal pouch (for the hydration bladder). External pockets are limited to the two mesh pouches (one on each side). A more internal pouches to organize and even an external pocket that zip would be great.
The recommended hydration bladder, 50 oz., is an odd size. We put a 2 liter bladder in it, but didn't fill it all the way so we could fold the top over so it would fit in the pack.
Our son is about 36 lbs. and 42" tall. It fits him now and should fit for a few more years. This is his camping/72-hour kit pack.

We got this for my 4 year old's birthday. She absolutely loves it. It's lightweight and fits her well. She wanted to go out and hike right away.
We don't pack it full for hiking so the compression straps are nice. She can fit more for school than we let her carry while hiking which is also nice.
It's a great little pack!

I just received this product from REI.com along with a second backpack to look at for my 3yr old son. This backpack hit just above his butt and appeared super comfy. He wasn't too sold on this on though.
The bladder area looks awesome. We will probably keep it for hiking and such, just not for traveling like planned.

My husband bought this pack for our 23 month old daughter. Although it is still quite large on her, she LOVES it and wears it every chance she can. She loves to buckle the chest and waist strap and blow the whistle. She loves carrying her own diaper and stuffy (and I love it too).
