I have owned a lot of Gerber products, and this product lives up to the quality I've come to know and expect from Gerber. I go camping in the deep woods and use this to clear brush and make my own trails. Works great.

I agree with the other high rated comments as I've used this over 4 or 5 outings. I'd guess best machete for the price. For me the saw on the back is a huge plus and it dose a good job for task larger then typical machete task. I have cut some 5 to 9 inch hardwood of fallen trees into manageable logs for firewood and it did the job well and surprisingly well & faster then I originally thought we first starting to use the saw.

I wrote a review on this product after i only used it once, but now i have used it a bunch. It does tend to get wood chunks into the saw blade, but that isn't a big deal. It isn't very sharp, but that is the point (to have more of a wedge effect vs. a sharp blade)of a machete. It has the PERFECT amount of flexibility in the blade. I haven't seen any other machetes with the saw blade on the back, so that is a great innovation. The carbon steel is VERY durable and prime material for a machete. getting the jr. machete doesn't make a lot of sense to me because you can get the bigger for just a little extra. either way, this is another great Gerber product.

the delivery was not as quick as i would have liked, but the product was in perfect shape; never needed customer service.

Great machete for the price! Stays sharp way longer than your average hardware store machete. It's much lighter too. The saw-back is an actual saw too with offset teeth so it is not just a gimmick like some saw-backs. A very good buy indeed!

I just recently bought this product because it was finaly in stock. I had this machete on my wish list for a while and when i saw that there were less than 25 in stock, i immediately bought it. if you are hesitating to buy this product, buy it; chances are it will be out of stock soon. the grip of this machete is very comfortable and it is well balanced.the carbon steel blade should be very durable and stay sharp for a while (i say "should be" because i have not put it through rigorous testing). the saw blade i haven't seen on other machetes, and it is a smart addition. for a very good price, i definitely recommend this machete.

Recently went on a overnight camping trip and was in need of some fire wood. The location where my buddies and I stayed only had big old logs and twigs. Decided to make the best of it and pulled out the Gerber and started hacking away. About 45 minutes later using a 3 men rotation process, manage to get a 15 inches in diameter log in the fire pit. Pretty happy with the durability of this machete because we put this thing through a workout.

my friend was about to buy one, to help place my order over $75. Then i paused, and decided how could i let a girl have one of these and not one for my own!?! our gator machetes arrived today and we immediately took them outside to the overgrown weeds outside the office. VERY IMPRESSIVE. our smoking area now looks beautiful! easy to use, good weight, the saw is much better than i anticipated. the teeth are off-set, so it's not just a jagged edge, it's an acutal saw. Great product! ready for spring camping now!

I was looking for a tool to help me get through the bush, and also cut small firewood, and this seems like a good choice for both.
A lot of survivalists say they won't carry anything that doesn't have at least two uses. That makes sense to me, (because it also reduces bulk and weight) and so I chose this one. I haven't used it enough to speak about it's durability, but being a Gerber product, I don't expect any problems.
The current (improved) version comes with a wrist lanyard, as well as some improved grips, to help you avoid any slippage and injury.
