Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
I've owned all of the latest models of the TNF Cat's Meow and this one deserves the title "Super Cat's Meow". I know many people in Boy Scouts swear by this bag and I'm sure if you get it for your scout he won't be disappointed. The exterior is made of the same material you'd expect to find on down bags priced at $200 to $300 more and the interior is just as cozy. There are some short comings though from previous models. It can no longer claim to be a 0°C bag as ASTM has it comfort rated to 1°C and a limit of -5°C. The 2008 model was rated to 0°C comfort and a limit of - 7°C. If you use optional REI straps to strap down your bag to pad to keep from slipping, there's only a set at the bottom. For some reason TNF didn't have include any around the waist or upper body.As for improvements over previous versions, the top shell does feel a bit thicker but doesn't compromise compressibility. The zipper pocket is accessed inside the bag rather than the exterior if you have a kleptomaniac tent mate. One problem I've always had with previous versions was clothing snagging on the velcro flap. The velcro on this model seems to have less grippy teeth on easily damaged clothing like Microfiber layers you sleep in, but still holds the flap tight. This is a great step up over the last model and well worth the [$] more. I just wish TNF had emboldened Cat's Meow on it as big as earlier versions as owners should be proud to have this industry leading bag!

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
I purchased this bag to replace an old wally-world special that I got on clearance. I've tested it out so far to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The bag stayed really warm all night with no noticeable cold spots.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it took a lot of effort to put the bag in the included stuff sack. I don't know, maybe I'm doing it wrong.
BTW: I'm 5'11", 180 lbs. I went with the Long bag over the regular and am glad I did.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
Using it in Alaska here in June so far. Really not impressed at all. I have the long and it feels they just stretched the same material to make it longer. No loft. I got cold at probably 30 F. maybe a decent summer bag, but im defentely going ot have to get a fall bag now. Not much room in it, which is fine, im skinny. but for larger guys... i dunno. Zipper, was poor design. snags frequent.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
This sleeping bag is very light compared to other 20 degree bags. In fact is seems to be one half to one pound lighter. This might explain why I in temps in the 30s I usually have to use a liner and or wear clothing in order to not wake up cold in the middle of the night. The EN lower limit is 23 degrees, which is either inaccurate, or I am a very cold sleeper. My recommendation would be to treat this as a 30 degree bag, at least.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
I love this sleeping bag. It's perfect for camping in arizona winters. I've backpacked in the snow in flagstaff with this (though I would highly recommend a liner in that case) and was quite warm. The zipper does snag every now and then, but I dare you to find a sleeping bag without that problem.
I keep my samsung galaxy s in the zipper pocket, and I like to use the second zipper to create a vent for warmer nights.
My only regret is that I didn't get the longer bag. I'm 6'0 and the bag is just a little too small. I didn't get it from REI though, so I can't return it.
It also doesn't pack very well. You can maybe get it down to the size of a basketball if you REALLY compress the heck out of it. I'd recommend leaving it open in your bag and put your gear on it.
While I do recommend this bag, I'd also advise looking at down bags for the same price. I really wish this bag packed smaller!

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
This pack is reliable, comfortable, warm, and performs well outside its usual limits. Used without sleeping pad in the snow in below-freezing temps with no tent and kept relatively warm for it not being a 4 season bag. It packs small and lightweight. I'd swear by the Cat's Meow over and over again!

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
I bought this bag 7-8 YEARS ago, worth every penny. It's my only bag so it puts in the miles. I've done extensive winter backpacking through the northeast, several trips in feet of snow….this bag is extremely durable, waterproof and has always been warm enough. Unless you plan to be in weather colder than -20, this is the only one you need.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
This is a great bag! It's 20 degree temp rating is right on...maybe even a little conservative (at least if you use a decent sleeping pad). Bottom line: this bag is warm! If you need a bag that packs ultra small, you obviously need to purchase a down bag. The zipper can be a little difficult, but that's no big deal.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
At the most, this bag is applicable for 40 degree conditions. Also, it is better if you use a good air mattress as the ground cold tends to penetrate through. It is spacious around the feet, but much too tight for those of us with broad shoulders. If felt comfortable in the store, but not in actual use.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag:
Great sleeping bag. Kept me warm while hiking in Iceland in November 2009 and is comfortable to sleep on top of during warm summer nights. Also packs great. Haven't had any problems in regards to moisture yet, and it has been in less than ideal conditions.
