Unless you're okay with losing lots of small items, or not using the pockets, this jacket's not for you. The pocket bottom is a straight line (no bag effect), and the zipper runs to the outside corner. Unless you remember to ALWAYS zip up, you will lose things- guaranteed. It's a shame really, because otherwise it's a very nice jacket for the price. However, I'm taking mine back. It's already cost me much more than the sales price in terms of lost or damaged items- like the car stereo face plate that fell out and landed in a puddle while getting into the car. I like everything about the jacket except the poor quality thread use to sew the seams. The thread fabric is starting to untwine after the first week, but functionally it appears to be fine. Since I am primary using it for backpacking or hiking, I can overlook this issue. Besides, REI has an excellent warranty policy so I'm not worry.

There are jackets made of similar smoother materials where the neck collar is lined with cloth like material. This cloth like material does not absorb the neck oil. Without the cloth like material the smooth material gets discolored and dark very quickly. This neck oil is evident in the lighter colored jackets even after short wear times. The ring around the collar does not wash out easily.

I use spray on water/stain proofing to try to prevent the ring around the collar.

I take a shower at night and in the morning so maybe I should take a shower midday too to prevent the ring around the collar!

I took it out for winter hiking/ camping and it was great as an insulating mid layer. However I did have a REI fleece under it. I did not sweat and it seemed weatherproof enough for light snow. It could be longer. Seems more of a fashionable fit than a technical one; My low back was exposed w/ bending, ect.. Im not sure how comfortable i would have been w/ out the fleece. I had a light polyester wicking base layer, a fleece and the revelcloud and I was not to hot or cold in sub 32 degree f but i wasnt taking off any layers either. I would recomend as a light technical mid layer and an awesome casual piece.

This is a great three season jacket. Use it as an undergarmet or wear it alone. It keeps you warm without being bulky. The smooth fabric slides right into your outerwear. I wore it under a polar fleece jacket on a windy 40 degree day on a trail with no protection from the wind, and I stayed quite comfortable. I bought the blue jacket, and I know I will have it for a long time.

I have always been a backpacker due to being in the military, but I just recently started carrying a pack as a hobby. I bought this jacket over a year ago when I started Hiking around Northbend Washington. I have worn it on several hikes and also climbs at Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Rainier. For most of the lower altitudes this is the only jacket I wore. I was in temperatures down in the 20s and had to take it off because I was so warm. This jacket makes for a great shell to wear under your rain gear or by itself. It is super lightweight and comfortable. Also it has a built-in stuff sack that you can get down to the length of a dollar bill. It feels like you have nothing on at all really. The only reason you know your wearing it is because you are so warm. I not only wear it climbing but also as an everyday jacket. I just recently went and bought me another one to have as a backup!

I bought this last minute for a backpacking trip because a cold front was set to come in and couldn't be more pleased. It weighs nothing and packs small.

My goal was to find an affordable mid-layer to go under my North Face Wind-Wall 2. This was perfect. It dropped to the mid-20's and even rained and snowed-- I was comfy.

I would use it for going out on the town and as a mid-layer but never as my shell for hiking or backpacking. It might work for that somewhere else but I'm here in the desert. It would be shredded. Otherwise, this was a fantastic buy.

Bought this for backpacking. It was good for cold weather but not extreme cold. Fabric is thin and may have durability problems in think brush or rock abrasion. Stylish and comfortable for the casual everyday wear.
