Casio Pathfinder PAG240B-2 Multifunction Watch is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Triple Threat I needed a everyday high function watch for all our outdoor activities and Security duty. I don't have an Altimeter in our Jeep and need one for our trips off the beaten path. I am just learning to use the Barometer. The compass has been right on. The temperature sensor has been mostly on. Still in evaluation. For the money, this watch does A LOT! Biggest positive surprise...It is much lighter than I anticipated! I have a smaller wrist for a guy and this feels great on my wrist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent, a little complicated I was considering either this Pathfinder or the Suunto Vector, primarily wanted an altimeter watch for hiking. I chose the Pathfinder after reading that the Suunto batteries only last a year, and the Casio is solar powered. I also read that the Suunto has a more accurate altimiter, but I had a chance to test that directly this weekend and found that not to be true. My friend has the Suunto Vector, and over a seven hour hike with 2400 ft climb, our two watches always measured within 20 ft of each other (which is the smallest increment the casio has). Note that you need to set a reference altitude at the start of your hike in order to get an accurate altitude reading, but it will measure altitude changes even if you forget to set the reference. Other features are all fine, it's definitely more user-friendly than the vector. Each main function (time, compass, altimeter, barometer) has a dedicated and marked button, and making adjustments is pretty easy but takes practice learning the steps. Pros: -accurate altimeter and compass -durable -solar powered -good value Cons: -bulky and heavy -takes practice to learn the functions -very dim backlight

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Watch For Average User I wear the watch daily. The only time I take it off is when I shower and sleep. The clasp is a bit snug to the band. It has what appears to be a leather band sewn over a nylon one. Very comfortable once it "molds" to your wrist. I am still learning all the settings, as the manual is very thorough, though a bit disorganized. For example, there are 3 seperate ways to calibrate the compass if you have to, but it is thrown in the middle of the book between other settings and options. It won't replace your compass, but it makes a good basic reference to keep you on track for short treks, and the altimeter is fun to see what you have walked up and down. Barometer drops when it rains, goes up when it is fair weather... temp was a little off because I am a very warm blooded guy, but a quick adjustment to compensate keeps it within 1 degree of my thermostats at work and home. I love it, and glad my fiance bought it as a birthday gift. She kept the receipt in case I wanted to switch for something else, but this is a keeper for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good watch, not for me I bought this watch specifically for its altimeter function, but didn't realize until I read the instruction manual that the altimeter doesn't measure gain/loss unless you've moved more than 50 feet in a specified time period. If you're moving up a steep incline at a decent pace, that works great. However, for most activities the readings are totally off. For example, on a recent 10,000+ vertical feet day of skiing, the watch told me that my total vertical gain was 1,500 feet because I apparently didn't climb over 50 feet between readings. However, while trail running a steep trail, the reading was very accurate. Other than that, the watch is good for telling your starting altitude and highest altitude. It's easy to navigate between settings once you read through the instructions. I really like the solar charging feature. I think it's a good watch, I was just disappointed that it doesn't work for my purposes.
