Cruise in style and comfort aboard the Electra Townie 7D step-through women's bike. It's super-easy to mount and dismount, and offers a comfortable, laid-back ride.

  • Flat Foot Technology™ geometry places rider upright for comfortable, heads-up positioning; aft positioning allows a rider to place both feet on the ground at a stop
  • The result is a low center of gravity, full leg extension and increased comfort—somewhat similar to the recumbent bike at your gym
  • Ergonomic saddle with elastomer bumpers offers a comfortable, shock-absorbent ride
  • Shimano Revo shifter and rear derailleur provide smooth shifting through 7 gears
  • Linear-pull brakes provide controlled deceleration for easy stopping
  • Semi-slick 26x2.0 tires ensure a smooth and stable ride over a variety of road or gravel surfaces
  • Platform pedals deliver total convenience—no special shoes required
  • One size fits most
  • Specs are subject to change

Fitting an Electra bike is easy. Start by setting the saddle to its lowest position and then stand over it with both feet flat on the ground. Next, simply raise the saddle until it rests in the crotch. Tighten it in place, and that's it—you're done! After an initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

      Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

This bike is suited for me. The flat foot technology helps my confidence in riding. It has enough gears for me to handle the slight hill on the bike path. It might not be suited for those who need more than a leisure riding bike but I am glad I purchased my Townie bike.

        Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

Great for a senior who is a little shorter. I love the fact that I can get my feet on the ground when stopping. My old bike was too high and I was having trouble getting my leg over(does not stretch like it used too). I like the chain guard feature that is back and the seven speeds, never could figure out 21.

          Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

I just bought the Townie 7D after my trusty old Schwinn cruiser started to rust out. I'm a 52-year-old woman who commutes to work in downtown Chicago by bike every day (unless it's raining or there's ice on the streets). I'm *all* about comfort. I am just amazed at how smooth the Townie ride is; you feel like you're just gliding along the road. It's also probably a good ten pounds lighter than my old Schwinn. I *love* this bike.

            Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

I love this bike! My feet touch the ground! I recently got back into cycling, bought another brand's hybrid commuter, but disliked the pain in my neck, shoulders, and lower back, as well as the inability to touch the ground when stopped.

I've used my Townie for pleasure rides of about 10-15 miles, and I'm quite pleased, as I do not have any pain or soreness, and I'm no longer terrified of stopping the bike when riding. So far, I have only used it for paved roads, so I don't know how well the tires would work on trails.

              Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

This is a comfy bike. It has a great cushy seat and rode smoothly around my neighborhood. It isn't great on hills, but my commute is pretty flat, so it's not an issue. The main issue I have is the size. I'm 5'1" and it's just slightly too big for me. I can still ride it comfortably, but can't take advantage of the flat feet technology (which is why I bought it). That said, I'm probably going to return it for a 24" one and see if that will fit my little legs better. Overall it's a great, well-made bike. Oh, it is a bit cumbersome carrying and taking up stairs, but not too heavy. And you'll get oodles of complements.

                Comments about Electra Townie 7D Step-Through Women's Bike - 2013:

I have not ridden a bike in years, mostly due to arthritis and other badness from old injuries in my left knee. Traditional bikes caused a lot of pain. My mom got a Townie last summer, and I LOVE it. I've wanted one ever since, as I do miss riding. The ergonimics of the angled seat post do wonders for not causing pain/pressure on my left knee. Can't recommend enough! (My brother, an athletic trainer, has verified this ergonimic line up as not craziness but true kinesiology. Also, no pressure on the hands/wrists which could cause numbness if one has carpal tunnel syndrome or inflammation as I sometimes do from overuse--I'm a musician)
