Not sure what the previous reviewer dropped his bottle on, but mine has taken a full tilt spill onto asphalt from a moving bike, with only a couple scratches. That said, if you do ding the bottom, just place it on a tabletop, put a board or something against the top, and tap the board with a hammer until the bottom's flat. Other than that, the bottle's just great; good capacity, slim design, the new lids are shatterproof (they did a recall/trade-in about 6 months ago), and my sport cap isn't noisy at all. The weight difference between this bottle and a plastic one of similar size is extremely slight. Plus, unlike a Nalgene, if you need to you you can boil water in it. All this, and it's bomb-proof stainless steel. This is my hands-down favorite bottle for everything from camping to bicycling to canoeing, and I highly recommend it. By the way, while I haven't tested a full bottle, I can tell you from personal experience that an about 3/4 full bottle has enough air to float if you, oh I don't know, capsize your canoe or something. :)

We started with one Klean Kanteen & liked it so much that we purchased several more. The bottle doesn't retain smells or tastes no matter what you put into it. It cleans easily with a normal baby bottle brush (unlike Sigg) and since there's no lining, you don't have worry about cleaning it a special way. As far as the reviewer who complained about the bottle denting, I'd rather have a dent (and a perfectly usable bottle) than a plastic bottle with a big crack in it that I have to throw away. You won't be disappointed in Klean Kanteen, it's a quality product that will last you a lifetime.

Love the Klean Kanteen water bottles...the whole family has one and uses it daily for lunches, bike rides, etc. The wider mouth makes it easy to clean & simple to add ice cubes. Any non-insulated bottle will sweat so we purchased Built NY bottle totes to keep them cold & absorb the sweat. I love the fact that the unpainted ones can be used to boil water in a pinch and they don't retain any flavor or odor. As far as the "leaking" cap, the sport cap is not intended to be leak-free & is supposed to be kept upright; there are leak-proof caps available as an alternative. This bottle lasts forever & is well worth the money.

This is a great water bottle. Love the size for everyday use (not too big/heavy, not too small). Love the convenient of the non-leaking sports cap - I don't have to unscrew and rescrew a cap on every time I want to drink, or worry about holing onto it vs setting it down. One con is that the bottle chirped when I drank out of it, probably due to how the extra air hole was set up. I poked a safety pin through the soft plastic plug on the hole, and now it's perfect. Worth doing for the awesomeness of the water bottle.

I have to agree with the last reviewer, this bottle is as good as it gets. Not sure what the other guy dropped his on, but I've also dropped mine (both 27 and 40 oz) on cement and asphalt and have only a few scratches. If the cap is noisy while drinking, it is screwed on too tightly. Just loosen it up a bit and the chirping goes away. We have Kanteens in every size and have every cap, including the sippy. Love each and every one of them!

I bought two of these Kleen Kanteens for my husband and I after a tremendous amount of research into BPA-free water bottles. I just love them and intend to buy more, one for the car and one for my dog. I can't stand the waste of plastic bottles and what it is doing to our environment or the toxins present in many other types of bottles.
I cook with stainless steel so i can appreciate the quality and endurance of this metal. Although the bottles are made from stainless steel, they are not heavy and do not dent in my experience. Aluminum bottles were light and fun but they always made me nervous. When I found out that most had BPA in their linings, I looked for a better solution. I like that that the Kleen Kanteen can be easily cleaned, doesn't keep odors, has no aftertaste and gives a good-sized gulp of water when you suck. The new ones do not seem noisy to me. I have not had a problem with leakage, but because it is a sport model, I do try to keep it upright. I plan on getting a wide-mouth type for completely non-leaking situations. That is a nice feature of this brand, that there are a variety of bottles and tops to use for different situations.
Service and delivery comments:
I ordered my bottles online but picked them up at a neighboring REI store so I could survey the other bottles and colors before making a final decision. I had to return one bottle because the air-intake valve was missing. Of course this was no problem. Customer service is always good. I also noticed that some models on display lacked the cap for the mouthpiece. Maybe shoplifters had swiped them, I don't know. All I can say is, make sure you get all parts of the top including the cap. And if you are missing something, REI will always stand behind the products they sell and make the replacement.

Originally came with a different top/one that didn't deafen you when you drank from it. Now you can't replace it and I won't buy a sports top because it is sooo loud when you drink from it. So, basically, I threw away [$]. Will have to go find a different BPA free bottle not from REI.

drop it once and you are done ever having it stand up on the flat. first version cap came with no retainer easily lost and then it's only good as a vase. second "improved" version comes with spout and cap retainer but is so noisy that sucking on a baby bottle is quieter.all this for [$]? back to Nalgene for me

Who makes a sports bottle lid that leaks? Anyone who is actively using this bottle (other than cycling) is going to end up with a wet pack, gym bag, or car seat and no water! I am very disappointed in this lid.

This was my first Klean Kanteen, and I love it!
The only problem for me was the sport top. I found a regular screw-on top for under $5 (I think at REI, can't remember) and we've been best buds ever since. I would definitely recommend the standard screw-on top over the sport cap.
A great water bottle... So far it's stood up to my abuse. Hooray Klean Kanteen!
