Comments about prAna Monarch Convertible Pants - Women's:
I've been intimate with these pants for years, having worn several pairs all through the backcountry of Alaska and for my heavy-duty day-job. As far as I can judge, this is the best women's adventure pant on the market. They're durable, flexible, dry fast, and are extremely flattering.
This said, I'm still waiting for Prana to perfect them. At last this newest version has a full set of full-size belt loops (previous versions had only loops in the front or loops too small to get a real belt thru). And they've returned to the perfect fabric (the 2009 version was far too stretchy and dragged it's heels all over the ground when damp). But this year, alas, Prana has taken a HUGE step BACKWARD by reducing the formerly perfect cargo pockets down to a piddly little zipper on the thigh. A gal can't put a dang useful thing in there without a hideous bulge!
Planning for a year around-the-world, I'm anxiously awaiting the culmination of all the wonderful elements I've seen over the years into the one perfect pant. This year is still not it.

These pants are extremely comfortable and breathable. I bought a size 6 and I normally wear between a 6 and 8.

I had to return these pants because they are loud. You know those swishy pants your grandma wears to walk around the mall? Yeah. They're comfortable and look good, but it sounds like you're wearing sandpaper pants. I wore them for five minutes but it just drove me crazy.

These are my second pair of prana pants for hiking, backpacking and travel. They have a more attractive cut than other brands of convertible pants. Just enough spandex and are less bulky and lighter than last year's version. I also like the longer length of the shorts/capris when zipped off. Comfortable for long hikes.

These pants not only look and fit well, but perform well. I spent eight weeks in the wilderness camping and kayaking while living in these pants. They have a slight stretch which made climbing into and out of my kayak a breeze and they dry super fast. Love the length!

I tried on every pair on convertible pants at my local REI store. These were the most expensive but by far the best. I'm short (5'2") and at first I thought they were a little long, but after I put them on with my hiking boots, they fit perfect. I would highly recommend these pants if you want to look cute while you go hiking or backpacking.
The thigh pocket is a little useless. You could put money or something flat in it. But I think it's a lot better than big ugly cargo pockets.

Comments about prAna Monarch Convertible Pants - Women's:
I had not wanted to spend so much on convertible hiking pants, but after trying on all the pairs at my local REI, I found nothing that fit as well, looked as good, or was as comfortable as these pants. They are a bit heavier weight material than many of the nylon convertible pants out there, but this added to my sense of security that they would not rip while rock scrambling. They zip off a bit lower down the leg than most convertibles, which for me affords adequate ventilation with a bit more sun protection. The pants are actually stylish and I suspect I'll wear them as capris to work when the weather warms a bit. Fit-wise, I went on the larger end of my size range and purchased a belt, since the drawer string loosens over the course of the day (though I have never had them fall down without a belt). My legs are a bit longer than normal, but not so much as to fall in the "tall" range. The length of these pants is perfect on me, but I would not recommend this style to my friends with shorter legs relative to their height.

These are overall a well-fitting pair of zip-off pants. I've struggled to find a pair that fit well and was reasonably cute - ie, no elastic waist, baggy butt, etc. My only beef with these is that they zip off in a weird place - like RIGHT at my knee, making really awkward-length shorts. (I'm 5'8" so on a shorter person they'd probably be below the knee.) I'd prefer that they were either shorts or capris. Also, not sure the 33" inseam is correct - mine are more like 31" so a bit short on me too.

I use the pants for work, hiking, and everyday use. They have been to the Mojave working in cold temperatures, to the extreme hot temperatures and haven't disappointed yet. I work as an archaeological field technician, so that pants have to be able to withstand a lot. So far, so good.
I also have last years model and loved them so much I couldn't resist getting more pairs. Although I love everything about these pants, I wish they would've kept the cargo pockets. Though the leg pocket on the new version is small, it does fit a compass, knife, chapstick, and money/debit cards.
Overall an amazing pair of pants for everything outdoors, and even your everyday casual wear. Plus, they look feminine and have a lot of style. No one wants to look like they are wearing pants that have a rise that goes past the belly button. If these pants were twenty dollars more, I'd still buy them, that's how good they are!

I LOVE these pants! They are not only very functional and great both around town and on the trail, but also very attractive. I've yet to find another pair of hiking pants that aren't awkward looking from the back but these pull it off with nicely placed pockets. The drawstring at the waist is a nice addition since Prana pants are sometimes a bit big in the waist (which I love!). If you like the fit of Prana stuff these are the hiking pants for you.
