Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
This product also changed last year and I think some of the reviews are still commenting on the older model (especially the gal who got it on clearance and loves the soft feel). This new product is not soft and supple like the past. And the new fit is terrible. The old product had a longer zipper and a nice contoured fit - not boxy like this new one. I had several of the prior models and wear them all the time as a base layer in the winter and an outer layer in other seasons. PLEASE BRING BACK THE PRIOR MODEL!!!

I love my base layers and i am happy that i won a pair and got to try them. I think its wonderful that REI ran a wonderful promotion that allowed me to try these for free. I would love to get another pair however i couldn't afford to buy them. They fit true to size and are very warm and cozy.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
Since I've never owned an earlier version of this product, I have been very happy with this mid-weight polartec zip-T. I don't layer over it -it would be a little too heavy for that - but it's perfect for cool/windy days alone or with a polypro layer under it. It shows off my waist without being skin tight, and I've received many compliments on it's neat clean look. The color is not an icey blue but a medium teal. This isn't a problem since I prefer the darker color.
I've washed it several times, and it does well in the machine. I've dried it in the dryer and on the line - no wrinkles or shrinkage or fading.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
I was a little concerned after reading all the other reviews, but it was on sale, and I could almost afford it, and I wanted to treat myself to something useful, so I went for it, and I'm happy I did. This is a very lightweight, soft, and smooth version of traditional thermal underwear, with the added bonus of wicking really well.
I bike as my primary means of transportation, and I live in Maine, and I needed something to keep me warm even after sweating all over my clothes under my big bulky winter coat in the wintertime. This shirt works better than anything else I've tried, and I'm quite happy with it. I really appreciate the zipper and neck bit that allows me to keep my neck extra warm when I need it. I find the shirt totally comfortable.
The size does seem a little too big for "skin tight" fit. Even in the photos here the shirt is baggy on the model. If I'd known, I might have ordered the shirt a couple of sizes smaller.

I have worn the old zip T extensively-this new model/ fabric fits poorly, too slick, looks terrible.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
The changes made to this shirt make it less layerable than the old MTS version. It's not quite as comfortable as a base layer. It also snags and pills really easily. I took it backpacking and it looks pretty worn after just a week. My old MTS shirts held up a lot better - I can still wear most of those w/out anyone knowing they've been in the backcountry more than they've been in town.
That being said, I actually like the new fit better. The shirt is longer and feels a little roomier to me, which I like. The "athletic" fit can sometimes feel restrictive to me, especially when I'm backpacking, so I appreciated the more generous cut.
I would still like to see a return to the MTS fabric, or something with a longer lifespan. I think it would make the shirt work better as a baselayer - as it is now, the only thing I can really wear over it is a vest or jacket.

the neck is very tall all the way to the chin. Would be better with an antimicrobial coating. Fit is Ok except for the neck.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
I agree with a previous reviewer. I also I liked the old version of this item MUCH better. The fabric is less "stretchy" and doesn't feel as "cottony". It is bulkier (both body and sleeves) and is less comfortable under my fleece shirt. And it seems to take up more room in my pack.
I understand others like the "new and improved" model but please, be aware that many of us liked the MTS mid weight zip t-neck just fine and, as this shirt is heavier than MTS, there is no longer a comparable mid weight zip T neck shirt available.
If/when REI brings back a suitable replacement (or even if it insists on just sticking with this one) please provide more color choices. I wear this for causal wear and travel as well as hiking and backpacking. I just don't look good in pale blues, pinks, purples, light greens, white, gray, navy or black.
Please provide some alternative for those of us who prefer warm rich colors; warm reds and oranges (subdued not garish) darker teal blues and greens etc. Please provide a good photographic color, one that contrasts well with the natural environment but doesn't stand out like a "sore thumb".

Great fit and super comfortable. Large enough in the hips so that I don't need to go up a size, but with a contoured fit that isn't baggy.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Women's:
I gave this 2 stars because I liked the old version of this item MUCH better. This one is a slightly heavier fabric with "waffles" on the inside. The fabric snags on everything and already looks ratty (only 2 months old). The old version was a very thin cotton feeling fabric, I wore it as outerwear and easily under clothes. This one is a little too bulky to wear under snug clothes. Also the neck is a bit tall and hits my chin; and I am tall (5'9")
