Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Men's:
The old MTS midweight zips were the best I've ever used. They would wick and warm, and they felt like your favorite casual shirt. This new version is too slick and shiny to wear around as casual wear. I can't speak for durability of the new version, but it looks like it's more easily torn on zippers and pulls than the old version. In short, I think the new underwear can be fine for cool weather activities, but they are not nearly as versatile nor do they fit as well as the old version.
Please bring back the old MTS midweights! You can keep the new ones, but the old ones were unique in the marketplace!

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Men's:
I really like this half-zip l/s top. I compare it to a blend of patagonia cap 2 and R1 waffle. So far I've used it on a mtb ride on a 60^ day and I wasn't overheated by it. Breathes nicely. Makes a perfect layer. Excellent product made here in the US which is becoming very uncommon these days. I typically buy a large but the medium fits me perfect - I'm 6' tall, 165lbs. Nice work REI.

Since REI isn't selling the previous version I tried this one on at the store and was very disappointed. I agree with the other folks who remarked that the look and feel of the new product was not as good as the previous. Just went I went to reload on this product they changed it to something worse. Argh.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Men's:
I was in the market for a new layering piece to replace my old Capilene top. I decided to take a chance on REI's mid-layer and couldn't be happier. This piece does everything a good mid-layer should do. It breathes, dries in no time, doesn't stink, weighs next to nothing. It's also a good bit cheaper than Capilene, which I still think is wonderful, but this stuff does more than give it a run for it's money. For three-season use, or active four-season, this is now my top of choice.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Men's:
I found the REI Polartec Power Dry zip top to be a comfortable fit, found no loose thread or poor quality manufacture, and they provided the same insulation as more expensive brands. This top has only been on a couple multi-day backpack trips, so I cannot attest to their durability. I do not see any piling yet. If they hold up over time, I would buy again and save a few bucks.

My family owns several of these and love them. We wear them over and under other clothes as well as by itself. I take better care of mine, carefully wash and they hold up well and look good a year later. My son thrashes his, works in them, washes carelessly and although they have some snags, still look pretty good. As long as REI continues to sell these, we will continue to buy them.

Comments about REI Midweight Polartec Power Dry Zip-T - Men's:
The fabric and fit has totally changed. Can't really comment on the fabric cuz I'm going to return it (though I can see what people mean by "slick"). Size medium used to be borderline too small for me (mostly too short), but now they're too baggy in the arms. You can tell from the photo. I appreciate the extra length, and the shirt fits acceptably in the body and neck. People who like loose-fitting clothing will probably think the product fits fine, but this is hardly a snug-fitting base-layer. Guess you gotta go to the higher-priced name brands for that.
Gordini zip-T's (sold at REI outlet) used to be an excellent exception, but a design change or manufacturing flaw has led to ridiculously oversized necks and general inconsistency.
