The REI Antifreeze down jacket warms you with nature's most efficient insulator and covers the hips for extreme warmth and protection.
- Durable, downproof double ripstop polyester shell surrounds lightweight, toasty warm, highly compressible 700-fill-power goose down insulation
- Shoulders, upper back and outer sleeves feature a fabric selected to enhance abrasion resistance; Antifreeze features a Durable Water Repellent treatment to shed rain and snow
- Windproof to 50 mph
- Horizontal baffled construction keeps down from shifting and maximizes warmth-generating loft; reduced fill on sides cuts down on bulkiness
- 2-way front zipper features an internal stormflap to thwart the wind coming through
- Zip-off, down-insulated hood wraps around the lower face for extra warmth; side and back adjusters provide a close fit and good peripheral visibility

New to Central Oregon and needed something more than what worked in Southern California. I found it for sure with this jacket. I bought a Large to ensure volume for layering and it fits nicely with or without layers.
The nylon strikes me as susceptible to rips or tears from sharp objects, like tree branches but extra material protects against the most vulnerable spots. Combined with a waterproof shell this would be a great backcountry piece in cold weather. I wore it in single digit temps with just a base layer and wasn't cold.

i use it when it drops below 5 degrees and it is instant heat i don't have to wait for the jacket to warm up for more than a minute to be cozy if im throwing it on whilst being out "There" i have had troubles with getting a hole but duct tape fixes that. would suggest that if you wear this in 30 degrees and up you will be too hot!

Warmest/Lightest jacket I've ever owned, which is why I'm rating it five stars. It even does well in heavy wind and light rain. However, the outside fabric isn't as durable as one would like. Snagging this jacket on the smallest branch or jagged edge would ruin it.

This is a great jacket. You can trust the wind-proof to 50mph+. I have tested it out the window of a car in 40 degree weather at 40-50mph. And I've also worn nothing but a T-shirt under it with weather in the teens and 20's. The hood is a bit unruly, but easily removed and can even be stowed in a pocket. The whole jacket packs very well, and makes for a decent down pillow in a pinch.
The only downfall, like many downs, is that it isn't rugged. The skin can be pretty easily pierced by sharp and jagged edges.

This is a nice warm down coat with great resistance to the wind. It is so warm, in fact, that I end up taking it off when doing activities (may come in handy if it is REALLY cold while skiing). It is a fair price and has many uses. I cannot comment on durability as I have only had it a few months, but it seems to be holding up so far. I love the wrist cuffs as they are soft and keep the wind/cold out. It has thicker fabric on the outsides of the sleeves and shoulders but I'd still recommend a shell if the snow is wet or if you'll be rubbing up against trees and such.
