Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
I bought this jacket in preparation for my AT hike. I liked the supposed waterproof factor of this jacket, while still allowing enough venting to not require pit zips. However, this jacket really doesn't give that. After having it for less than two months, and the first time I had it out in anything more than a sprinkling of rain, it leaked. The shoulders were so poorly seamed that my upper body began getting wet as the water leaked through. Being wet in 50F weather is not fun. Also, the fabric doesn't seem to have any DWR finish, because it just absorbed water to the point where I could literally ring it out when I was finished.
Needless to say, I returned it the next day.
Then a month later, the Beau, who had the men's version of this jacket, started having problems with his. The zipper got stuck to the point where it could not be moved--not by hand, pliers, or the guy at the return counter in REI.
Seriously, just spend the extra money and shell out for an Arc'teryx. You'll be glad you did.

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
I really enjoy this jacket. I have the one that's described as gem blue, but in most lights it looks purplish blue. I have had it for two months and got it after being caught in a wind/rain storm with a cheap jacket that couldn't handle the conditions. So far it has been perfect, not leaking and breathing nicely. I also wear it for cold weather biking and when I heat up the jacket keeps the temperature comfortable.
The one problem I'm having with it is the zipper, which works fine it just takes a lot of coaxing into beginning correctly. So if you find little things like that annoying I would not recommend it. Overall I love it.

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
So much that I bought TWO of them at full price. I live in a ski town and ski in my red one almost daily, in conditions ranging from cold temps and light powder to near-rain, all day long. The hood fits well over a helmet. The inside net pockets are great for ski skins. I use my black jacket for travel and work. Both have always kept me dry from rain and wet snow, even out all day long. When I am overdressed and working too hard skiing trees or skinning uphill, the jacket transports my perspiration out better than anything else I have ever owned. The only reason I rated them 4 instead of 5 stars is that REI appeared to have kept the price lower than many eVent jackets by skimping on features. Such as a fleece flap across the zipper at the neck to prevent it from scratching. I sewed in a key keeper and zippered inside pockets for keys/passport/wallets (using the fabric in the seam allowance: do NOT sew through the waterproof portions of the jacket!) It is hard for me to fathom the negative reviews here when my own experience has been stellar. At this sale price, this jacket is a steal.

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
This is a great jacket with one HUGE flaw -- the hood visor. I purchased the Kulshan for my girlfriend. It appeared to be a very well made jacket with a nice contoured fit and excellent length in the torso and sleeve. It fit my girlfriend perfectly. However, the hood is HORRIBLE!
The when the hood is cinched down, the visor flaps around and does not stay in place, and this impairs the vision. This might not be a big deal for a casual wearer, but it is a huge deal for anyone planning to take this shell on a real technical climb.
In the end, I returned it and bought my girlfriend a Rab eVent shell. The Rab fit was boxy and the sleeve and torso length was a little too long, but it was completely functional, and the hood performed flawlessly.
FIX THE HOOD, REI! Spend a little more and put in an adjustable wire brim, and you have yourself a 5 star jacket.

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
Bought this jacket on sale and was feeling guilty about the purchase until I tried it out in single degree temps with a wind chill of -30F. This is the first jacket I've owned that claims it's windproof and actually lives up to the description. I've since had several similarly freezing, wet ski days and have yet to get cold (and I ALWAYS am cold). I've also used it on warm days (60+F, full sun) and was surprised at how well it breathes for a Gore-tex like material.
Only downside is the zipper...it does take a little finessing to get it started. Price you pay for waterproofing.
I don't agree with the bad reviews this jacket has received. The complaints about the pockets are unwarranted- these pockets are designed for activity with particular attention to climbing so you can easily access the pockets with a harness in place. Also, the hood is designed to be helmet compatible. So yeah, it's large. But it also cinches down nicely and stays in put even without a helmet to hold it place. If you are serious about outdoor activities this is a great jacket for mountaineering, downhill and backcountry skiing, climbing, etc. If you want a jacket to look stylish around town and aren't as interested in performance, I'd look elsewhere.
Great jacket! Can't say enough positive things about it!

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
I have used this jacket on a few very wet days so far, including a full day in the field sampling soil and streams, crawling in and out of brush in a soaking rain. The waterproofing has held up magnificently so far, and I stay dry inside even when I am exerting myself. Basically, the breathability and waterproofing are excellent for my uses. I have no idea how the waterproofing will stand up through heavy use, though someone I know with the jacket (who uses it for skiing, biking, hiking, etc.) says it has stayed waterproof longer for him than GoreTex jackets he has owned. It fits and looks great as well. I bought it for [$] and definitely think it was worth it.

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
I bought this jacket last spring, and have used it in the rain all fall. It's the best rain jacket I've owned and it's kept me dry in light and heavy rain, in the city and in the woods. I have used it while traveling in the US and abroad and received many compliments on it. I really appreciate that it's fitted to a woman's body and not just a big rectangle of waterproofness.
It took me a couple months to realize that there is a hood adjustment cincher on the back of the hood -- that made it much more useable in terms of visibility (and I'm wondering if those who found it too big adjusted it).
When backpacking in the rain, the wrist cuffs and bottom hem will get a bit wet but other than that I've always stayed dry even when it's been pouring.

Purchased for my wife. We had to laugh when she put it on as the hood was hugh. She said she looked liked one of those little guys in Star Wars with the big hoods (i.e. the Jawas on Tatooine).

Comments about REI Kulshan Jacket with eVent Fabric- Women's:
I bought this jacket thinking it would be windproof. On my first winter hike in windy conditions, I could feel the cold air come right in, so I got chilled a bit. The flip side of this was I stayed pretty dry inside as it provided great ventilation. I ended up buying a heavier mid-layer jacket that was windproof and stayed toasty warm then.
I then hiked 4 hours up at RMNP in light to moderate rain and I stayed mostly dry. The visor part of the hood does block one's view, so I did a back, double-fold of the visor and it seemed to correct the problem, albiet in an make-shift type of way.
