Comments about REI Boulder Ridge Fleece Jacket - Toddler Boys':
We bought this fleece on sale in a store and loved it. It fit well, not too tight, not too bulky. I especially liked that the jacket doesn't have a lot of pockets, as my baby was not going to need pockets. Pockets add bulk and it seems like all baby clothes have tons of pockets now (like cargo pants for a 6-month-old). But it does have a pocket on the chest which we actually use to attach his pacifier clip to in the car or in the stroller, that way it doesn't go missing. We have used the jacket every day for the past 3 months for transport to and from daycare. We live in Denmark, and it is now, in October, getting too cold for this jacket, but we have ordered one online anyway, since it is great for layering under his rain gear. He is now 12 months old, about 31 inches long, about 22 pounds and is barely fitting into the 12 month size. We can pull it on over a short sleeve, but not over a long sleeve since it pulls the sleeve all the way up his arm. It still fits great around the torso, but not over anything other than a onesie. We will be ordering more as he grows.

I was so disappointed - this looked great and is cute, but the fleece is the cheap awful stuff that smells musty/petroleum-y, and is slightly sticky instead super-soft like most fleece. I am shocked REI is using this low-quality fleece fabric.
The orange color is also more of a copper than the soft orange that appears on my computer screen.

There are so many options when it comes to this type of fleece jacket so why get this? Well, first of all, it's on sale (a GREAT one!), and second, it's well made like more expensive barnds. My son likes the suade feel of the material and the extra pocket right on the chest (with a zipper). I like the color and the weight of the fleece (not thin or heavy) and the ease of putting it on (with a full zipper). It's made quite fitted so if you like it on the loose side you need to size up. This is perfect by itself or wear it under a down jacket on a very cold winter day!

I'm surprised another reviewer thought the fabric was poor quality. Nothing could be further from the truth from our experience! The fleece is strong with an appropriate thickness for use as a stand alone jacket on cool days or for layering on colder days. It is also very soft and the fit provides great coverage for our active son. I love how the back is a little longer than the front so that his midsection isn't exposed while riding his bike. We are so happy with this jacket that we already bought the next size up for next year.

We LOVE these fleeces. We have them in the 18 month, 2T, and 3T sizes (so far). They are perfect for fall and spring weather here in Vermont. They are soft, warm, and look great! They wash well and seem like they will easily last through both of our kids... I'm sure we will continue getting REI fleeces for our boys as they grow. They are a great deal and just as good quality as some other much more expensive brands!

This jacket is great. I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about, I got the orange for my son and it's a great jacket which looks and functions like a much more expensive option (Patty, TNF, etc.). Rest assured, you'll love this jacket as much as my 3 year old. BTW, he is 3.5 years old and the 4T fits him a little loose, room to grow. He's average to slender, so the sizing is right on.
