    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromThis tire is an Original I've been riding and racing this tire for years. It is fast, has great traction and is relatively quiet on the street. It is also one of the original, purpose built 29er tires. I have heard of torn sidewalls, but I have only experienced a tear on this tire once and it was completely my fault as a I slid the tire directly into a limestone "feature." If you ride to the ride (or are planning to), enjoy single track or rocky & rooty and like to go fast, this is a great tire.

by fromGreat All Arouner! Some disclaimers about the title for the review . . . If you are looking for a specific purpose tire, such as a serious single track tire or really deep tread for getting through boggy stuff, you can find better tires, I'm sure. But what you *WILL* be hard pressed to find is another tire that performs so consistently well on a variety of surfaces. Where it really excels is riding hard pack or paved surfaces, but it does a really good job in gravel, loose soil, wooded trails and wet (but not deep mud) trails. Like I said, a great all around performer. Another caveat: there are two versions of this tire, Comp and Race. In brief, the Race has an Aramid bead making it foldable and the Comp uses a more conventional wired bead so the tire cannot be folded. The Race is more expensive, but the performance difference is is readily noticed. This is the one to get. I've ridden both versions and the review below applies to both tires, but the Race tire will give a better road feel, higher thread count for the casing and accelerates better due to lighter rotating weight. That difference leads me to my one gripe and it is not the tire but REI that is the target of the complaint. REI does not stock the Race version and REI, at least the REIs in my area, will not soecial order them. Depending on how much pavement you travel, the tread life is usually quite good. I can easily get two seasons out of a set of Nanos and traction off road stays good, right up until you wear the center tread down to the casing! The knobby side tread allows for some good off road cornering and the center tread acts like a raised bead on hard pack surfaces making for a real smooth ride with much less friction drag than some other "serious" knobbies. These are ideal if you can only afford one set of tires. I highly recommend the WTB Nano to riders of all levels as a general use tire or as a trainer. They are also an excellent choice for urban riding, cross country trail riding and Rails-to-Trails where the surface may vary greatly. Remember: Time spent riding your bike is not deducted from your allotted lifetime, so get a pair of Nanos, get out there and ride!

by fromWeak sidewalls Had a sidewall split after about 60-70 rides of 10-15 miles each -- light to moderate technicality. No apparent cause.
