Poorly designed products that fails
I love the features of this headlamp but something in the battery compartment fails causing a loose connection. Then the light turns on but doesn’t stay on for long. Was hoping it was a bad unit and exchanged it. Had the same problem with the second one. Unfortunately this one will be going back to rei and there’s really not a good substitute from a competitor that I’ve found. The color changing and limited lumens are great for my toddler. Not sure how I’m going to deal with the disappointment. Had a similar issue with the adult spot headlamps too but it took a lot longer to develop.
Fun rainbow colors
This product comes in a believe a kind of berry/aqua color and a an orange/blue color. The strap is sturdy but not overly thin or tight. The adjustment area has like a small square with a little attached clip to adjust. This product is fun if you are a lover of colors. So many gorgeous shades that it makes. I think if the range of motion of the face went a little more from every angle, this would be perfect. I use this with my night walks with my dog in the city. Makes it easy to light walking area for my dog and to help search for whe it is time pick up.
questionable quality
Looks like a nice headlamp for junior but in my case I had to return it because the light was intermittent. It would turn off and on for no reason. Could be an outlier case but the contacts for the battery don't appear to be positioned properly. Also the straps aren't designed to stay on well. Plan on adjusting them regularly as they are very loosely designed. Black Diamond make great headlamps but I am questioning this one.
My Son LOVES his new headlamp
We have a 3yr old who lives playing with lights and always wanted mommy or daddy’s headlamps. This was perfect. The lights is a dispersed in a way that not completely blinding when he shines the light directly in our eyes (he is still learning) and the different colors were super fun and even better with no blinding people. We also used it a couple of the first nights as a light show in our tent to add that extra special fun in going to bed.
Bad Battery Contacts
I will not buy this lamp again. This is the third one that has a faulty battery contact point. I bought two previously and they did the same thing. I tried to give this one another chance but it did the same thing, which is a shame since my kids really enjoyed these lamps for theie nighttime reading. The lamp will not work and I thought it might be the batteries but it is the contacts. They seem to bend and then will not complete the circuit. They are built into the unit so it not really something you can fix once it gets bent.
Not bright…
I bought these headlamps for my kids for Christmas last year. We ended up returning them when I realized they were not bright. They don’t illuminate much of the ground ahead of you…and they weren’t very bright for reading either. It gave you the impression the batteries were dying. I was told by the kind people at REI that this was due to the fact that they’re for kids, and generally kids’ headlamps aren’t that bright so as to not blind parents. I think we will just stick with adult headlamps.
These are so cool!
We have these for our 3 kids, ages 6-8. The light level is perfect (i.e. not blinding) when they are reading in the dark or shining into our faces at a campout. By far, the coolest thing about these is the full spectrum of beautiful colors. This grownup is totally jealous! We have had these for over a year. They have held up well. Battery life is satisfactory. Yes, sometimes they detach the light from the band. Tell them to knock it off, and you’re good.
Good as a toy but not as a tool.
This is a fun head lamp for kids. My four year old boy loves that it changes colors, but the actual light that it gives off isn't very effective for night hiking. Good as a toy but not as a tool.
Good, almost great!
If they had put TWO buttons on this thing it would be 5 stars. As it is, a single button controls on/off, modes, and brightness. It's confusing for me, let alone my kids. If they had made a control to toggle on/off and a control to cycle through modes it would make it so much easier. Love everything else about this unit. The first thing any kid does is look straight into a light like this, so the unique design makes sure they aren't doing damage to their eyes (or mine).
So Close, But Kinda Bad
It's a nice idea and my kid likes it but the single button operation makes it too complicated for a kid to use on their own; they are constantly asking me for help. Regular headlamps with one button are complicated enough for a grown up to use, when you add the functionality of selecting a rainbow color and having a kid do it, memorizing all of the different things that you have to do with one button is just too complicated. If they had just added a second button it would be great.
