Needed a thermos for when I'm out snowshoeing, hiking or photography. This thermos is great. It keeps everything hot for hours.
The last time I used it the temp was 34 degrees. Warmed hot choc to the point it was barely to hot to drink and placed the thermos in the car. About 2 hours later I went to get my drink of hot chocolate and I still couldn't drink it. since it was still that hot. Once I came home the thermos went in the fridge for about another hour and when I pulled it out everything was still very hot.
The part I like the best is being able to drink right from it and not needing to place the liquid in a cup and then drink from that.
I like it so much I will be buying another one for back up.

This cup is well on the way to perfect.
The temperature retention in this cup is amazing. This cup retains so much heat that it might not make the best commuter coffee cup as the liquid might be too hot to drink. I pour it into the coffee cup and drink it about an hour or so later, still taking gentle sips. I have no qualms about the temperature even 3 hours later, still steaming hot. Temps seem to decline after 4 hours (which is amazing).
The sealed lid allows me to throw it in my work bag and not think twice about it spilling, I would not do this with my gear bag though. I could live without the flip-top dome lid, just one more thing to break. Drinking is easy and smooth.
If you overfill the container and then put the lid on, you'll need a new shirt. The liquid creeps into the lid and will drip endlessly, but it isn't inherently easy to tell when you have overfilled it. User error.
Not difficult to clean, but not easy. I wash it with hot water each day and then disassemble it every four days or so. You could probably get by in the dishwasher, but it is not recommended.
I bought this cup for a couple of friends, and they were equally impressed.

This is by far the best insulated mug I have ever used. I can fill it up with hot tea and it will still be literally steaming 5-6 hours later... and frankly this mug would keep it steaming hot for many more hours I'm sure - I just never take that long to finish a good cup of tea ;)
Especially in cold months of hiking, driving, studying, or working, you really will not go wrong with this mug.
One of my favorite REI purchases, indeed.

Horseback riders carry water bottles that attach to their saddles, but I require COFFEE in the morning and can't use a thermos with a separate cup – need one hand to hold the reins. This push button tumbler is EXACTLY what I've been searching for. Works great with one hand, keeps coffee HOT for hours, and for a reasonable price. Plus, it fits in the bottle holders of my saddlebags.

Overall, this is an excellent bottle. It is well-constructed, easy to use, good-looking, water-tight (I left it upside down for over a minute with no leaks), and it does a great job of retaining thermal energy. As an example: I recently filled it with ice water and after leaving it inside a car that was about 115°F for 4 hours, the water was still cold-I was impressed.
I didn't give it 5 stars because of a couple of minor complaints. 1, there's no place to add a keyring (I like to carry bottles by their keyring :-)). And 2, although it is plenty big for hot liquids, it's somewhat small for cold liquids...I wish it held about 4-5 oz's more.
If they made it a little bigger and added a keyring (and made it in the US), to me it would be perfect. But nonetheless I am still happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.

I received this tumbler as a gift from my husband. I was ver excited about receiving my first REI product. It is a great tumbler and would probably work well for bacpacking. However, for my purposes (car travel) it could use some modifications. First of all, it is too tall to fit my Keurig coffee maker which is designed to accomodate a travel mug. Secondly, the tall narrow design makes it unstable in a standard car beverage holder and it tends to flip out of the holder when the car is turning. My suggestion is that REI offer a shorter, wider model which is closer to a standard travel mug shape for car travelers!
