I have used the device on extended bike rides and hikes. It works great; the only issue is trying to reach water holes that are not easy to access would be nice to have a attachable tube for those hard to reach spots.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

I was looking for a better water bottle than this but the only one I found via the reviews was the one with the light but that is $100 bones and it looked much bulkier and I wonder about its durability if dropped on a rock or whatever.
I have logged around 1000 miles with this bottle and it has not let me (or my wife when her platypus bag runs out) down yet.
When it gets low, simply dip it in a stream or lake and put the top back on and drink away. Its not going to get much easier than that.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

The paper filter cloged after 3 usages, making it increasingly difficult to get a sip of water. It was the most economical option, but I should have spent the extra $40. The filter is everything!

        Service and delivery comments:

Service at the store was excellent as always. I took the product back, explained the situation, and they returned it without hassle.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

As some reviewers have noted, this is NOT the water bottle for hot, dry hiking conditions. It's 750 ml and as such wouldn't be the best for hikes/trips with limited water sources. That being said, it worked perfectly for me on an extended backpack/float trip in the Brooks Range of AK. We also had a pump type filter with us, but as the water got muddy due to flooding the pump filter became almost impossible to use and it took forever to eek out even a small amount of drinkable water. With the Katadyn bottle, all I needed to do was use a bandana to strain out the largest particulates when filling the bottle and I had as much water as I needed. Other reviewers have commented on the difficulty in getting water out of the bottle but I did not find this to be the case and although I didn't time it, I had no trouble in drinking a full 750 ml in a few minutes time. The one con I found was a slight iodine taste, but I didn't find it to be a deal breaker and at times it wasn't even noticeable. I plan on bringing this on other backcountry trips and will also use it for international travel.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

This product DID work as advertised. I spent two weeks on a section of the AT in New Hampshire drinking everywhere from clean mountain springs to sediment-filled beaver latrines without any ill effects. Unfortunately, the stream this filter gives off is absolutely insufficient to remain hydrated during strenuous physical activity. A good, hard fifteen-second squeeze on this will get no more than an ounce or two of water into your body. If you're looking for something lightweight to bring on a nature walk or car camp, I think this could be a decent choice and you can rest soundly knowing your water is safe. But when you're looking for heavy-duty hydration, this is just not going to cut it.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

This product does exactly what is made to do. It is an integeral part of my fishing gear. It keeps me in fresh water while I am on the river. Central Oregon in the summer is HOT and not having to continualy back track to the car for water is a big plus. It does taste of idoine, but it beats not having water when you need it. I allways carry a gallon or more in the car but carrying a gallon container while wading the D is not an option. When hiking I use a standard pump filter for more and faster output. using this as my only water filter would suck. As an "as needed" supply it is tottaly awsome.

Works great, but water goes fast due to water filtration system taking up a lot of room within the bottle. However, if you have an abundent water source then it's simple to refill.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

I picked up this water bottle last spring in prepartation for field research where we would be in PA coldwater streams surveying for hellbenders. I figured this would be a good item to have for carrying cold drinking water from home, and when that ran out, pop the filter in and use stream water the rest of the day (8-12 hours of research per day).
The first day out, the bottle fell out of the nylon expandable pocket on the side of my pack. When it hit the ground top-first, the mouthpiece popped out of it's hinge pockets. Once it does that, it does not stay put no matter how many times you try to put it back in. This piece needs to be designed better.
I never did get to try out the filter.

I'm posting this now because I was getting my field gear ready for this coming summer's research and found this thing, mouthpiece inside the bottle.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

I used this product (Actually the older x-stream one) in the boundary waters canoe area between Minnesota and Canada for 5 days. As one other reviewer said, this product is not meant to be your sole filtration source during an outing. It is a supplement that works well between bulk sanitizing with something like a pump or boiling.

It was awesome to be able to simply dip the bottle out of the side of the canoe, screw the lid on, and continue drinking. There is no long wait time like with iodine, or chlorine tablets.

Comments about Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier:

This water bottle was given to me as a gift before I went on a trip to Kenya to do some Non-Profit work. Many places in Kenya do not have clean water and it requires that everyone boil it or filter it somehow. My first experiences with this water bottle were in the airport. The filter inside the water bottle will make you get searched almost every time your carry-on goes through the scanners. The filter is still pretty foreign to most people using the scanners and they will always want you to take it out of your bag and show them what it is. The only way to get around all of this hassle is to put it in a checked bag, but if you are like me you travel light and like to do everything carry-on then this can cause some problems.
While in Kenya, this water bottle was a great filter. I never got sick from any water that I drank whether it was tap water in Nairobi or streams and springs out in rural areas. While the water bottle has a great filter, it is really tough to drink a lot of water out of it. You fell like you are sucking on a milkshake though a small straw. You can squeeze the bottle to help push some volume through but it is still tough. The other problem is that the bottle itself does not have a ton of water in it when the filter is inside. I found myself drinking the water pretty fast and having to continually refill the bottle, but it was also extremely hot where I was at.
All in all, it is a good water bottle if you don't want to pack a larger pump filter for your nalgene. You can feel pretty safe that your water will be clean, but it is not perfect as an all around water bottle.
