        I wear 7 and 1/8 size fitted ball cap and this hat fits perfect. The flap configuration/hat construction is a bit confusing and stowing the cape took about 3 tries to figure out, but it is perfectly functional. I would upgrade to a black under-bill to reduce glare in future versions, as almost all of my use of this hat is on the water as a fisherman and field biologist. My ears tuck nicely under the sweat-band and cape offers good coverage when battling the sun all day.

          This is my impression after 1 day.
          I plan to give this hat a real workout, and see how it performs.

          I bought this hat to provide sun protection on my neck and ears when working outdoors in the garden and yard in the San Fernando Valley (intense sun).
          I also plan to use the hat when hiking in the local mountains.

          The hat seems to be well constructed.

          I have a large head (measured 24" when my hair is extremely short). This is a one size fits all... with the adjuster let all the way out, the fit on me is a bit tighter than I would prefer. Not horrible, and it might loosen up with use.

          Looking in the mirror, the cape is a bit short to provide coverage at the back of the neck when I am wearing a tee shirt and bending over in the garden. I measured the cape as roughly 5.5 inches. I think it probably needs to be at least 2 inches longer to provide sun protection to the back of the neck when kneeling in the garden.

          So... probably an okay hat.

          The cape flap was too short to cover my neck when I wore a T-shirt without a collar. I have another brand of sun hat and its cape reaches my shoulders. I returned the REI Cadet Cape Cap for a refund.

          I bought this hat to replace a very worn ball cap. I like it except in the sun it almost seemed to retain the heat with the flaps down. It didn't seemed as if it breathed as much unlike when you had the flaps tucked away. This would be more of a positive note in the cooler weather when you want your head to stay warm. Overall though it seems like a good hat.

            The description says for summer wear, but I bought this for a weeklong ski tour in the Alps, and I found it to be perfect. Does a great job of shading your head, eyes, and the back of your neck, but is nice and breathable for long slogs on the skin track. The adjustable elastic band keeps it on snugly even when skiing fast on the down.

              This is a great lightweight hat that offers sufficient protection from the sun. I used it in Istanbul, Turkey as well as Bucharest, Romania.

              It looks good, breathes well and has the feature of the back tucking under.
