Comments about Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp:

This headlamp has several features that I've been dreaming of but have never seen before -- I hope it inspires some competition towards these ends.

-The Sprinter is rechargeable. Not your own rechargeable AAA's that you have to risk breaking the lamp to remove and recharge, but an actual Lithium battery with a slick wall charging dock that the headlamp sits on. YES!

-The front light has a dimming feature -- not just two or three different levels of brightness you can cycle through, but a feature where you hold down the button as it dims continuously and let go at the exact dimness you want for your particular task. Sweet! If this technology is available, why don't more lamps have it? It is a waste of both batteries and night vision to have your lamp any brighter than you need it, so I'm a big fan of this feature. That said, the full brightness is quite bright, for when you do need to see distances.

-The optional red strobe in the back is an awesome safety feature -- if you share the road with cars after dark at any point during your life, this lamp is probably worth the investment. It's also easy to turn the rear light on and off (just on and off, not three million different strobe options to cycle through), so you don't have to be blinking away when there's no one nearby to care. Sure, you could get the same functionality with a separate front and rear light, but this way it's one easy device that you can leave on the wall charger at home until you need it instead of keeping track of location and battery life of two devices. Also, the front-and-rear light fixtures balance each other out quite well so the lamp doesn't feel awkward.

I love this lamp for the above features -- its rechargeable battery and wide range of brightness options make it perfect for a daily-use headlamp for all purposes, as long as you are not packing it or going into the backcountry. It is NOT a good headlamp for backpacking or backcountry adventures, since you could potentially use up its battery life in a single night of camp cooking etc., if you have it on bright, and the rear light is not a good use of space/weight unless you're near a car.

This lamp does not fit my image of a perfect all-purpose portable headlamp, but its incredible advantages made me realize that having a dedicated at-home headlamp is worthwhile -- after all, I don't sleep on my backpacking pad or cook with my camping stove at home.

If I could figure out an easy way to attach it to my bike helmet, it would get the 5th star.

I've had this headlamp for about nine months and just love it! Very bright up front and a red led strobe light in the rear so that I don't have to worry about being seen when running before sun up.

Comments about Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp:

I like running in the early evening and sometimes in the early morning. I've used a few LED headlamps while running and have, at least on two occasions while running across a controlled intersection, nearly been hit by cars that couldn't see me, and I had a headlamp on. Those headlamps weren't as bright as the Sprinter.

I charged it up and tried it on in daylight and at full power was nearly blinded by how bright the light was. The intensity is easy to adjust, simply with a press and hold of the button. You'll know if the light is at its brightest or dimmest setting because when you hold down the switch to adjust the intensity, it will flicker for an instant when it reaches maximum or minimum. Very helpful while adjusting when running.

The main plus is the very bright red LED on the back which you can turn on or off, independent of the main light on the front. It only has blinking mode, though I see no real reason for it to have a steady mode. The red LED turns on automatically when you turn on the main light.

The entire device is very light weight compared to others that I've used which required AAA or AA batteries. There's also an extra strap that runs across the top of the head for stabilization. If you run without a running cap or if you use a beanie, I recommend it. Otherwise it sits just fine on top of the standard cap.

Beam coverage is pretty decent for a headlamp.

Comments about Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp:

I run in the dark most days of the week in the winter and this lights up the ground in front of me like no other light. Since I primarily only have to run in the dark during the winter, I am usually using this over a hat and so it is comfy, but I can't speak too much for wearing it on my bare head- I suspect it would be a little uncomfortable against the skin. Love the fact that it has a rear flashing light so that anyone behind me can see me as well. Definitely worth buying if you run in the dark regularly.

Comments about Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp:

This product is amazing! I live in a rural area, so safety is very important, the only road to run on around here is a state HWY. The light is so bright you can be seen by drivers by up to 1/2 mile away! I know this because just yesterday I was stopped by a driver who wanted to tell me how awesome my light was and that he appreciated me making myself visible. He saw me from a 1/2 mile away WITH the sun to to MY back. The red light on the back ensures you're visible from all sides, and the battery pack ensures you won't go dark in the middle of a run. In fact I've had this light on for almost 2 straight days before it died! (I was trying to kill the battery to recharge it!)

It is light and small enough you could also use it camping, hiking, climbing, whatever, and the light on the back would be especially useful for hiking or climbing in low light conditions so you're team could follow you.

Comments about Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp:

Excellent light for running. Beam is plenty bright and can dim for longer battery life. I've gone for 90 minute runs on full beam and it remains bright. Red tail light is great for visibility on roads. Wouldn't suggest for multi-day backpacking trips as you wouldn't be able to recharge, but is great for all shorter applications.

I run early morning ... 430 am... and we run down roads with no street lights. I can see the road perfectly with this headlamp. It is most definitely the best head lamp I have ever used. I had another headlamp I used for years, but this one, far surpasses it. If you are a runner, who runs in the dark, this is a must have.
