    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

I bought this backpack based on the reviews of the site and I couldn't make a better purchase.

I used it for my trip to the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa and was the best experience. The bag has a great capacity and is easy to handle. I traveled around the country, visited 10 cities and went to the Safari in the Kruger. The bag performed as expected and was very comfortable while traveling.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

Worked well for two, 4 day trips. I'm not a minimalist but I was sort of shocked at how fast an 80 pack would fill up. Sturdy seams, but definitely not water proof. Comfortable on the hips, but doesn't sit as snug on the shoulders as I like. Doesn't sit against your back too well, but lasted for the hikes without any back or joint pain.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

This is an absolutely comfortable pack to carry medium to heavy loads with. It's not very fancy or high-tech, but it carries your gear exceptionally well. The back panel is sturdy and provides good protection from your gear. The front pocket holds lots of gear and the water bottle pockets are large enough to lock in your bottle so that it never falls out. The main compartment is enormous and the hip belt stays put supporting most of the weight in your pack so even though you are carrying a lot of weight, you don't get fatigued. Also the lid pockets are great for keeping smaller gear organized. When I think of this pack, I think this pack is "just right" for me.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

This is an extremely large pack, and I love it. I purchased on recommendation from an REI rep who also helped me size the pack. It has been used mainly for a multi-week hostel trip through Europe and worked extremely well. I matched it with a separately purchased cover/bag for airline travel which helped immensely. The only reason for the less than perfect rating is now that I'm back, the pack is basically too large for everyday/overnight trips, though it can be cinched down quite thoroughly.

The Mars 80 worked well for my two week European trip. Although a bit larger than I usually use for hiking in Oregon, I will use it for extended trips abroad. Overall very satisfied.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

I have used this pack on a few outings now and couldn't be happier. My most recent outing was Bow hunting for Elk in Colorado. After a successful hunt my pack was loaded down with over 100 lbs. inside the pack and attached to the outside. The pack out was over 5 miles in some very rough country. At the end of the day I was not sore at all. The pack held up very well and kept my load balanced and in place. Again, I couldn't be happier with my pack.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

I took this bag on the John Muir Trail and found it to be extremely comfortable compared to my friends Kelty and Osprey bags. I brought along a rain cover for it but all the zippers have weather resistant seals which help if it terrential down pours before you get a chance to put one on. The only downside I found was that although it has a front pocket that opens to show the entire inside, it doesn't allow you to access the very bottom area without pulling out some of the stuff in the middle.
But having it be as comfortable as it is and for the price I would absolutely recommend this bag to anyone looking to take it on an exteneded trip!

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

I bought this pack more for travel than for hard core backpacking. At this large size I was able to pack for a 2 week family trip to Florida, then turn around and pack for 4 days at Cub Scout Camp, and then repack again for a 5 day trip to Las Vegas. Each time it was a breeze to load up and carry between transportation modes. It handled each trip very well and is ready for more!
For the flight to Vegas I did put it in a REI backpack duffle to protect it and worked great too. (My wife did get a chuckle out of my putting my bag in a bag.)
So far I have been very happy with the pack as multifunctional luggage. If/When I go on a serious backpack trip I will have to be careful though not to fill it. At this size I would not be able to carry it all day if it was full.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

Borrowed from a friend to use on a three day Mt Rainier climb and it did great, plenty of pockets for organization and easily held all my needed gear, gave it four stars because the pack seems a bit heavy for cold climbing conditions when clothing acts as padding other than that a great product.

Comments about REI Mars 80 Pack:

I bought this pack for a trip to CO and it was well worth every penny. I easily loaded up 30-40 pounds of gear for our hikes and I never once felt any pain or strain in my back or shoulders. All of the load was properly carried to my hips. The straps at the top helped to easy any weight I did feel.

There were lots of pockets and dividers which helped make packing and retrieval easy. I love this backpack!
